The air looks so clear I bet it was lovely and invigorating after the storm, is that a mini stonehenge the indians have built ? :D

Morning early birds walnut and Waco!

Yes, walnut, we thought it was a mini Stonehenge! Most odd. Will be posting the envelope to you today.

A couple of them would make good subjects, Waco. I am not painting at the moment but certainly may consider one of them.

Today we went over to the West Coast where the River of Odeceixe splits the Algarve and the Alentejo regions.

It is a beautiful coastline quite different than that of the Barlavento coastline of Southern Algarve.

The river facing into a hazy inland toward the small town of Odeceixe. Alentejo on the left, Algarve where I am standing ...

... and as it flows into the Atlantic ...

We walked up to the top of the cliffs for these views ...

And this is the little town of Aljezur further south on the coast ...

We were not as hot as most of you, with our temp being around 22 degrees ... very pleasant with a sea breeze.

Still in Praia de Odeceixe ...

I'm quite puzzled by both of the following.

I think this is a Pinus nigra nigra, the Austrian pine quite widespread in Europe ...

And I'm putting up four photos of the Acacia ... for possible debate ... it COULD BE the dealbata (Mimosa or Silver Wattle) or even the baileyana (Golden Mimosa, Cootamunda Wattle) ... or even ????

The problem is my Acacias which "drape" don't look like those in my books! [IMG]

Some really good views there LOL.

as for the acacia, I dont think it can be the two you mention as, I think they both have pineate leaves, hows about longifolia?
Just a guess as there must be load of similar ones.

I did look at that, pete, but will look again tomorrow ... it's these "pom pom" bright yellow flowers .. they are so beautful and line the lanes both side, quite breathtaking. But, it's sort of where yuu can't stop the car and jump out ..

Thank you, one and all, it was a lovely trip. Wildflowers going up shortly.

There are one or two I fancy painting, walnut.

    pete, I don't think it's A longifolia at all ...

Top right are the leaves of it ... my leaves are more like bottom left A melanoxylon (Australian Blackwood) but that's a tree with a long trunk and these are shrubs.

    Strange, me thinks!

    Lovely pics!

I like the coves, they remind me of where my sister lived in Galicia.

A bit of a disappointing trip today to Foia, the highest point in the Algarve at 902 metres. They do get smatterings of snow up there. On a clear day you can see North into the Alentejo, South to the sea, West to the West Coast and East into Spain. Today it was hazy.

    North to the Alentejo ...

South to the sea, which we could just see with the naked eye ...

The foreground of the above pictue is a mixture of stones, sheep and goats ... and the Shepherd with his charges ...
