To escape the melee here today, albeit only two workers as it is a public holiday, I went off early into Silves, the old Moorish capital of Algarve, which is where we shop each week.

    The main road ...

The main purpose of the wanderings was to photograph the Sesbania puniciea trees ...

    ... there's lots of white Plumbago ...

Thank you, elainefiz and Hy. There is some graffiti here but a bit high class.

Litter ... no, there are teams of people who clean the streets in every town all day long, spotless (except in the country where we live), and they have the little street-washing machines.

Keep your fingers crossed, Hy, that I am successful ... at least I know where lots of seeds are!

Everything as lovely as always Sis. I planted the Sesbania seeds today, after having them in water overnight.

Since today is a holiday there, where are all the people? Very strange, not a one in sight! Just like when you took your winning Bridge over Troubled Waters photo. I never have that luck, I have people milling around everywhere and spoiling my pics. How do you manage it - do you have the police block everything off until you finish photographing?

Thank you, roders, my dearest. Yes, it's such a big holiday here you wouldn't believe ... go look in An Algarve Garden! You're such a gem! [IMG]

Sis, I was there at 8.30am before the stores open ... hence no people! Heaven only knows how I took the Bridge photo without a car in site ... sheer luck. As with the beach photos, my timing seems perfect. I don't like to clutter beautiful photographs with people. I often stand for quite a white for people to move out of my way and t'other half says you'll always have people in your photos .... really ?????

Notice the funny weather? It was absolutely black going into Silves, hence the spooky Cathedral pic, roders. But as I walked back to where I started (the main road bit, by Lidl, Sis) all this blue materialised!

Lovely pics LoL, the Acacia? is difficult to ID, got another in close up? it's leaves look bigger than most Acacias (and Albizias), it has the flower colour of Grevillea Robusta but they are a brush type flower. [IMG]

Thank you strongy. I think these were seeds pods not flowers, it was a very tall tree. Most Acacias bloom here in March. I'll go through my books.

I knew I was one phots short of eight on the last ... it was my friend the stork at the grocery store where I went after my wander ...

Agree, it could be seed pods but the leaves still don't look like Acacia. Here we go again ;)

Hadn't thought about Grevillea, strongy. We bought one when we came here, not knowing they grew to 60 foot or more. Had to dig it out as after two years it was already 15 foot tall. Now have a Solanum rantonetii in it's place trained as a tree. Far more manageable and blooms all year.

As far as Grevillea go, I'd love a 'Canberra Gem' which is smaller ... and saw one them the other week. T'othe half said, "that's nice" but, alas, I have nowhere to put it! :(

    I'll get on this one.

Thank you, walnut. I'm glad you enjoy them ... you don't have to go on holiday with me around [IMG]

strongy, I'm not sure about the Grevillea robusta now. I've tried to zoom in on my tree and got it a bit pixelated but they don't look the same ...
