    MINI-BREAK IN SPAIN

We were kindly invited to join our friends on their family holiday in Fuente del Conte, Cordoba, Andaluca. We took up their offer and joined them for a few days during which time we went sightseeing, swimming, mountain hiking (just to get to a restaurant), went to a horse show, a fiesta, played card games and partied! Now we are back and shattered needing a holiday. I did take a few pictures, however.

This was the cottage we shared with them ...

This is the village of Fuente del Conte which we walked to ... first going away from the cottage hence village, up through the olive orchards to the top, then backtracking across the top to the village for dinner ... I had toe-post sandals on!

One day we went in search of a horse show which took one and a half hours (TG for a/c in cars) but got there just in time for the finish. This chappie was so chuffed I was going to take his picture, he gave me this wonderful pose and smile ...

... and off he rode with his lady ...

We went into the town of Archidona for the festival and saw this little fella on our way ...

Before the festival, we went up to the Sanctuary high above Archidona ...

... with it's lovely views over the town and to the mountains ...

Down to the festival in the town you are greeted by this fantastic illuminated archway ...

... and I thoroughly enjoyed myself on this ride which went forward, backwards then forward again whilst go up and down for a good five minutes, with our friend's 10 and 14 year old daughters ...

We girls did a bit a shopping ... and here are the men (t'other half on the left wearing my new cowgirl hat, one of three I bought, and our friend wearing his lady's hat, with his 14 year old next to him, she dwarfs me, and the youngest in front with the dog) ...

A lovely illuminated church with belltower in the town ...

The day we went swimming I did not take my camera  because we were going to the Municipal outdoor pool. It is fantastic, large with four showers one on each corner, a lift for the disabled, a lifeguard, two levels of grass to laze on, one with cane shading, loos, indoor showers and a bar.

However, it was unfortunate as there were some lovely trees in the area ... Catalpa, Prunus pesardi (our friend said this about these huge red-leafed trees), a Papaya, a Gleditzia, and much much more.

But I did get these ...

    Catalpa pods and seeds ...

    Caesalpinia ...

A Capparis spinosa (Caper), which I thought was a shrub and am trying to grow but this is trailing out of a rock wall, flowering and a fruit ...

An Ailianthus (Tree of Heaven) at the cottage ...

And a lovely one to end on, grape vines (one red, one green) in front of the cottage which I lay under reading reaching up pulling the grapes off ... heaven ...

That's all, folks, hope you enjoyed my mini-break with me.

Great pics Sis, I can see that you all had a wonderful time and you sure got around to all sorts of places.

I have a jar of those giant capers in the fridge, they always have a piece of stalk on them so you can pick them up easily.

I love it when grape vines are used to make a shady area, and as you said, just reach up and pick them!

Thank you rosa, Sis, roders and pete.

It certainly was an action-packed adventure, to say the least! Every night was late ... well, wee hours, as we were also celebrating two birthdays ... t'other half's and Stu's lady.

On Friday the girls got me up at nine (I'm normally up by then) as they had made a chocolate birthday cake and couldn't figure the oven out ... neither could I but I at least know how to do "guesswork".

All other mornings I was up long before anyone else which is when I lazed on the verandah reading, eating the grapes ... that and in the afternoon when everyone else took a siesta. [IMG]

How we crammed so much into so little time is quite beyond me, but it was thoroughly enjoyable. Oh, and the highest temp was 32.5, five more than here, so pleasant. [IMG]

Pleased you enjoyed them Kev, walnut and pip.

After much Skype texting back and forth to my friend still in Spain, and Googleimaging, I've discovered the two huge Prunus I did not get to photograph was cerasifera pissardi ... his spelling is much to be desired for a gardening specialist.
