Ninety percent of these mountains were burnt out two years ago by arsonists and you can see they are starting to recover. In lower areas they are replanting the hillsides.

Thanks, Rosa and DAG. Just want to show everyone the Algarve we know and love ... not just the beaches and expensive villas with swimming pools!

    Looks a great place LOL.
Tell me is that land in your pics, areas where people can roam, I presume someone owns it.

Evening, Pete, and very happy holidays to you.

That land is roaming country ... Forestry Commission I believe now ... obviously with the old ruined cottage. It's very odd as you can be up there in the skies and suddenly there is a ruin!

I will point out, there are now signs up there in some areas saying that that area is a fire disaster and access is restricted to people and vehicles in those particular areas.

Can you believe it ... I'm twemty minutes from the above and twenty minutes from the sea! Heaven!

So was it all forest before the fires?
I presume that the forestry people are replanting with trees then.

Yes. Very sad indeed! Ninety percent of our province's forests were destroyed in the summer of 2004.

It's not just the Forestry Commission replanting but there was a big "thing" here where everybody contributed and paid for a new tree and it's amazing to see what's going on.

Now that my new "hobby" is photography (c**p I know but I'm still learning and will improve), I'll be taking lots of photos in the future and I'll be going up into these areas. I think it is so vital to recover from these disasters.

If any of you are interested, I'll keep posting progress here.

I would be interested as to what kinds of trees they are replanting and if its the same as was there before, and if so how they intend to lessen the fire problem in the future.
No real reason, just find it interesting. [IMG]
