Thank you, rosa! [IMG] Strongy, this is my Monkey Puzzle tree on the deck ... there's no resemblance whatsoever. This has more succulent needles if that makes any sense! [IMG]

Completely different, pete. They are not REMOTELY similar looking!

Now I'll have to go and steal a bit of a NI Pine and photograph it next to my Peanuts ... for goodness sakes, what are you guys like!

I know, you're keeping me on the run to lose more weight ... :D :D :D

There are two of them, one more curley cue (that's a gardening technical term) than the other. Please not the succulent looking needles I mentioned previously which mine has but the NI Pine does not.

The challenge is on ... I have access to both ... do you?

PS My friend, Stu, will be embarrassed if you are right because it came from his garden centre ... ha, ha! But I recognised it immediately when I saw it.

I've gotta go right now, be back tomorrow LOL.
No Norfolk Island pine is not hardy here but I did grow one years ago from seed.
To avoid confusion we should really be using latin names, Araucaria araucana Monkey puzzle.#
Araucaria Heterophylla (excelsa) Norfolk Island pine.

You always agree with pete, dendro! Mine is a Monkey Puzzle ... look at my doodly flaps (another technical gardening term) and the NI Pine I put up yesterday ... they are worlds apart.

Bearing in mind my Peanuts (that's my Monkey Puzzle tree's name, very original) is young, it possibly isn't curley cue (that's the other technical term).

Mine has spines on the trunk but very "soft and sensuous" on the "fronds".

Gosh, it's fun here ...  ... and I'm the one who has to trot around the countryside proving my point. But, as I said, good exercise! :D

Apologies to Strongy, pete and dendro. After much research it would appear I have an Araucaria heterophylla. [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

I did not know that "the scientific name heterophylla ("different leaves") derives from the variation in the leaves between young and adult plants." (quoted from wikipedia). As I have a young tree, it looks nothing like the large ones I see here.

I keep all labels from plants/shrubs but cannot find this one. It was not actually my friend who sold it to me but an assistant who said it was a Monkey Puzzle ... so for 14 months we have been under the impression that this is what we had.

I'm still puzzled by the spines on the trunk as I can't find any reference to that.

Again, many apologies ... but it's still fun here!
