I thought there's been a court case where's it's been accepted you can now re-use them on the beach as peeler crab traps, without it being regarded as dumping of waste?

I'm going to have to plant mine in bags as the soil here is too dry and sandy to hold the moisture they need.

Courgettes and their brethren (Squash etc) hate the cold. Yeah they snuff it if it is frosty, but even if it is only chilly they stall, and the leaves turn leathery and then don't work like they should - a chilly wind has much the same effect ... I delay planting out my Courgettes etc. until at least middle of June, potting them on into large pots if necessary in the mean time. Cloches will help (if the plants are small enough cutting the bottom off a 2L pop bottle, and sticking that over them, will bring them on nicely (take the label off to let some light in, and don't use the dark plastic Coke ones, OK? !!)

Or get some plastic "Bell Jars"

Mine went out last weekend, I've got a home made cloche around one and rigged up some perspex sheets around the other. I think they do need a little shelter to begin with even if you have hardened them off.

I agree with Kristen, there's no rush because we always have a cold spell in early June and they just sulk.

I still haven't planted mine, though that's due to lack of time as much as weather. They'll probably go back in the greenhouse overnight, too.

Mine are still out, and still alive - can't say they are growing at any startling rate though, thanks to the weather. Oddly, they seem to have a sort of milky residue collecting on their leaves?

They often do have a whitish pattern on the leaves. Failing that, they might have a bit of powdery mildew, though they usually get that when it's too dry.
