This was one of four flower arranging classes being held by Mrs. Shiney's Flower Club. You can see what others in the class produced here:

          https://www.facebook.com/1383734631...191950703680/1496191107370431/?type=3&theatre

Mrs Shiney always picks loads foliage and flowers for others, as well as herself, to use.

This would make a nice arrangement for a buffet table.........

I asked her to explain things on this thread.

"I bought the gladdies in Aldi (£1.60 for 6!), and a bunch of carnations for £2 (loads left over for more arrangements.

          Mrs Shiney's arrangement:

You start off with two shallow plastic trays, Get a block of oasis. Float it in a bowl of water until it sinks - don't push it under the water! Then cut the block of oasis in two lengthwise across the top (so that it stands proud of the trays, thus enabling you to place plant material at the sides of the arrangement) and put one piece of oasis in each. Tape it with pot tape (from florists). Then place 3 uprights (here I used larch, a sprig of rosemary and a piece of tortured hazel. then put some perpendicular flowers (I used spray carnations, one stem of gladioli, and Chinese lanterns. Next, start blocking the base with colour; the main guidelines are that they should contrast the perpendicular placements....and bring the upright colours through to the base... so I used (from left to right), golden conifer, skimmia berries, erysimum Chelsea Jacket foliage (nice rosettes), euonymous, hydrangea florets, more skimmia berries, sedum (a pale green one), golden choisya, ivy leaves, and finally, fern. These two are just placed together (not joined). I was able to split it and give it to two ladies that evening......

The chocolate eggs arrived just now and the jars look a lot better filled. The smallest one will be filled with the paper clips

@Joolz it's more than a decade since my bobbins saw daylight but I won't part with them should I decide to take it up again. Please excuse some of the focusing. :)

My box, actually a fishing tackle box storing everything I need. I have approximately 150 bobbins most of which are wood.
                          IMG_4752.JPG

Spare beads, none of which are plastic because they function as weights for the bobbins and hang on brass wire from the base of the bobbing to keep the thread taut. That weight is called a spangle. Some of these beads are hand painted.
                          IMG_4754.JPG

A small selection of bobbins with spangles attached, all in various types of wood.
                          IMG_4755.JPG

A standard cushion that I was taught to make at evening classes, it's stuffed very tightly with straw. When the bobbins are 'working' they would be hanging close to the edge of the cushion and it's possible to have more than a hundred working together. Lacemaker's would know each and every bobbin and where they would be placed during the process of creating a piece of work.
                          IMG_4758.JPG

Some of the bobbins in my box.
                          IMG_4759.JPG

Gimp bobbins.....these are used without spangles and used to weave a heavier thread through the lace.
                          IMG_4762.JPG

The only piece of work I possess and probably what you wasn't expecting to see as a piece of lace. There are different types of lace bearing different names, some of which are heavier than others.
                          IMG_4765.JPG

From here on all the pieces are practice pieces and worked during the time I was being taught. Colours were used for experimental purposes.

Torchon Lace - the simplest to work.
