wiseoldowl..a layer is something you build up on the photo to make a picture i am not very good with layers but HB will help you or Marge..
The clone tool is something you can use to paint errors away or to clone something from one side of the picture to the other,..
    glad you are having fun..

Layers are like sandwiches WOO. You open one of your photos and think of that as the bottom slice of bread. Then you take something from another photo and that is the next layer. So you paste it on top . Take another object from another photo and paste it on top - and so on.

You can built up as many layers as you like, but you have to merge them down to get the final picture. You probably need to look at that section in the instruction bok. I used 4 layers to put the dinosaurs on LOL's Dead Tree painting.

When you buy Paintshop Pro, you are invited to register with Corel. Although that is intended to get you to spend more money with them, it's worth it for the tutorials they email you.

Currently they feature the new Background Eraser tool. You download a picture of a dragonfly and a flower. Then you erase the background of the dragonfly and paste the insect over the flower.

I did that and then did it with one of my own photos. Notice that it is so accurate that it even preserves the veins of the wings and their transparency. You could never do that by cutting out! Excellent new tool!

WOO...when we got our paint shop we started with simple things like kaleidoscope a flower then built up from their..
to kaleidoscope a flower select a flower click on the effects tab on the tool bar scroll down it till you see reflection click on that and kaleidoscope is in their..click on it and it will turn your flower into a pattern like this one and just add a border then build up daily from simple things...

    kaleidoscope flower...

I like that one woo - the colours are great. When I first started, I bought some mags with step-by-step instructions and followed them. Mind you, most of them were way beyond me to start with, but you soon catch up [IMG] I also went on a course at the school - invaluable [IMG]
