Straight forward text is straight forward. You can choose colours, font and size. Then you click Apply and can move it to where you want it. Then you can stretch it or make it taller. When satisfied, you click on Layers and then "Merge all down"

    Curved text is very tricky!

Whoa - I have a motning out and look what I find upon return!! Fanrastic stuff newbies - keep it up! I use Photoshop which is a bit different to PSP but most of the basic stuff is the same. I do a lot of cutting out cos I like doing it! One thing that helped me when I started was finding out about the selection tools - if you select part of a pic with one of them, any effect you add will only affect the selected part. If you go to select on the drop down menu and INVERSE you can add the effect to the UNselected bit and not the selected part - does that make sense - I may just shut up cos am prob confusing you! That is lovely, Dendro - reminds me of fine lace.

Yes Marge - I agree. The selection tool is great for controlling parts of a photo that you want to apply an effect to rather than the whole of it.

One use is to improve depth of field in a photo. You select a flower or person etc and then Invert your selection. That makes the background active. If you then Soften that, the background will blur slightly leaving the flower still sharp.

The selection tool is also vital for making cut-outs.
