    [IMG] Good Morning All......
Dont do yourselves down guys you are all so good in your own right, you made me give up.

It is a very clever art,and I dont think people realise how it stretches the imagination and how time consuming it is.
    PLEASE CONTINUE..............

Oh Roders, please dont give up :( You were improving quickly, I thought [IMG] The pics on that site are superb - so artistic [IMG] I was looking at some of the pics and I think I could put some of the 'cleaner' ones together if I had all the bits, but I lack the imagination to do it  Hey ho, gotta keep having a go, and I really enjoy doing it and thats the main thing isnt it? Yes and many are drawn and painted from scratch ie they are not manipulated photos like ours. Never mind - as long as we enjoy what we do and encourage each other. We can all help by giving some information about the techniques we use. We are not competing with each other - but hopefully we are co-operating and learning as we go.

Roders ..you are not to give up we are not in a competition its just fun!! And we have all got better over the weeks when we have found new things to try in the paint shop..you just have to fiddle around and try different effects if you dont like them its easy to erase them..
We are not brilliant at it but hopefully we may get better.. we are not in the league of those sites.. :( :( :(

    No don't give up Roders!

Most of the time I've got the imagination, but lack the ability and patience. I couldn't spend 25 hours on a picture and don't think I've ever spent longer that one hour on one. As Marge says - enjoying it is the main thing. The only thing. I look back on some of my early stuff and cringe, but it's useful to see where we have come from and I look forward to where we might be in another few months. We each have our very different styles and that's good.

Looking at those other sites, it's clear that they are using graphics pads and much more sophisticated software than we are. Ah well...

Two things I have been thinking about (which is quite worrying in itself, really ;) ) Firstly, I would welcome opinions on my work because I think it would help me improve ie lighting and shadows I am aware of them but havent really got a clue where to put them in relation to the object Im working with. Secondly, if anyone wants to know how something was done, praps they could ask cos I havent always got time to write it all down when I put the pic up. Mind you, whether I can remember, is another thing! ;)

Personally I think we should give honest criticism and say when something doesn't work. But I know that some people get very upset if anyone says anything less than enthusiastic. I always reckon that we all learn from our mistakes and sometimes it is easier for someone else to see flaws in our work. But I don't want to discourage anyone. Agree with Marge, it will be a cigarette to have to write everything down for every picture - but sometimes when something new is tried, an indication is helpful. For example, I have no idea at all how GW acheives his/her pictures.

Lighting and shadows - Marge. Difficult, but essential if the objects you add are to look solid and sit in the picture rather than appear to float in front of it. Shadows will always be exactly opposite the light source. You can paint shadows in or do something horribly complicated with masks.

Essential to have a shadow sitting under an object. I have failed in my planet/billard table picture. The numbered ball has a shadow under it which links it to the table. The added planets don't and just look wrong. I'll smack my wrists unles anyone else wants to. I certainly would not be offended if someone pointed out such an error

When something is intended to be floating as in the baby with the world - then a shadow would be wrong

Most of the time, its not til I put my pic up that I see huge mistakes!! I have been known to edit the post and re-do it!
Trouble is, I get carried away and forget to check all those type of things! Experience I spose. Thanks H [IMG]
