    Bravo!
Too many people joined (what they *thought*) was the Eco challenged and turned many of their 45's into ashtrays!
Ooops! Shortsighted ... even ashtrays are defunct now :heehee:

Every now and again a song comes along and stirs up our emotions, I heard this on the radio driving home today. @Zigs pm'd me this when my daughter emigrated three and a half years ago and I still have to fight the tears when I hear it.

Following on from the thread about the sad loss of Acker Bilk I put this recording on there. It was the theme tune from a brilliant film.

The tune and song were covered by hundreds of people. This is a sung version of it and covers the theme of the film.

It's a plaintive ballad but some of the versions were more upbeat. The Beatles jazzed it up a bit and the Hollies increased the tempo even further.

Liked that, Jenny - but then I am partial to a bit of CR from time to time :)

I went to see the family last week and my S in L was playing Prince Ultimate.. I had forgotten what a talented guy he is.. He was always a favourite of my daughter.. This was released back in 2006 but a superb mix... I also watched a program about him on TV a while back.. Wow, what a shy, but multi-instrumentalist..! This has to be one of my all time favourites of his.. I have a very mixed taste in music.. ;)

The Kalin Twins had a big hit (their only big one) in 1958 with this song, and sold two million copies. They shot straight to number one and stayed in the hit parade for 18 weeks.

This is them in Cliff Richard's 1989 concert. Notice Cliff Richard is a backing singer in it. He backed them in their original tour :)

This is the Platters singing their great 1955 hit 'The Great Pretender' which they performed in the film 'Rock Around The Clock'.

A 'little' while later, Freddie Mercury did his version of it.

This Queen video was banned in America! :heehee: It has had almost 59 million hits on Youtube.
