I don't normally like Miley cyrus or Bastille

but Bastille covering a Miley cyrus song with a bit of Eminems lose yourself influenced in it is doing it for me

I was listening to a bit of Led Zep today. For those that think Led Zep was a racket, think again! :)

I recently heard this tune, on an album by Roger Hodgson, the voice of Supertramp. The album is called 'In The Eye Of The Storm'. Sit back, kick off your shoes, and let this flow over you (good eh?)......

Now you've got me going again @Freddy!

Robert's taking things a bit easier these days. Two of the better tracks from his recent album 'Ceaseless Roar'

This song, written by Pete Townsend became a type of signature tune for The Who.

I never thought a great deal of it but it almost sounds like a rip off of the Beatles' style. This was from their promotional film made in Hyde Park. By chance, I was in the park at the time and watched the filming.

                Just for something different.

This Japanese song reached No.6 over here and No. 1 in the U.S. in 1963.

The title has got absolutely nothing to do with the song but the producers just wanted a Japanese word that people would have heard of!!

It's one of the biggest selling singles (taken on actual sales and not the stupid modern calculations of a few figures taken from half a dozen shops!) and has sold over 13m copies.

I wonder how many of you would have heard of it. :) Kenny Ball got an instrumental version to No. 10 in the same year.

                Sadly, Kyu died in 1983

Another song, around the same time, that sounds a bit like a rip off was Tommy Roe's 'Sheila'.

It reached No. 3 in the UK charts and No. 1 in the U.S. (1962) and reached No.31 in the year's top 100.

It certainly sounds very much like Buddy Holly's 'Peggy Sue'. That didn't stop it being a big hit.

In 1963 Buddy had four hits in the year's top 100 and Tommy had two hits (but Buddy had none in 1962).

Just out of interest, did anybody see Lady Gaga singing a tribute to The Sound of Music at the Oscars? Neither the soundtrack or Lady Gaga are my cup of tea tbh, but boy, did it make the hair stand up on the back of my neck. She was incredible. It's in YouTube if you didn't see it, you may be very pleasantly surprised x

This was the first No. 1 in the UK charts. :blue thumb:

The UK charts started in November 1952 and this song not only was the first No.1 but was also the first No.1 Christmas song (not surprising seeing it was so close to Christmas).

As it was such a short period to the end of the year they only produced a top 30 chart (they didn't show the top 100 until 1954).

Only four UK artists got into the 1952 top 30 chart. Vera Lynn (3 times) Max Bygraves (remember him :)) and Tony Brent. Mantovani also charted that year but was born in Italy and moved to England when he was 7. Tony Brent was Anglo-Indian and was very popular in the 50's.

Mario Lanza had a big hit with this in 1952

Shiney....Mario Lanza was amongst the music that surrounded me in my childhood, my mother was a great fan of his and with my father's taste in music as well, much of it has stayed with me. I still appreciate Mario's wonderful voice. :)
