I've grown Dioon and spinulosum from seed, edulus just gave up the ghost, but still have one neglected spinulosum hanging around somewhere.
I find its very easy to rot the roots off, plus they take up a lot of greenhouse space, bearing in mind the fronds deform if the plant is moved before they harden, and spread quite a distance.
I didn't like having to squash them in over winter with all the other stuff, it ruins the appearance I thought.

I'm kind of over my Cycad days now,...... I think.

Oh dear, I didn't realise I was embarking on yet another addiction that I was going to have to get therapy to give up!

Encephalartos gehlinkii and fredrichii-guelimii (excuse the spelling :oopss:) come from high altitude mounains in South Africa and would have the odd snow fall in winter.

I have seen gehlinkii at the Palm centre once, but they were in a sorry state and were very expensive, so I decided not to get one.

I have given up on Cycads, last one went to mush, might get to the Palm Centre next week, as I'm going to Kew, see what's around.

Its to the left of the seat.

The fact that it is colder and frostier here than Weymouth means I have to rethink the hardiness of what I plant now. If I am to get -8/9cs, again some plants are definitely out. The less plants I have to dig up and overwinter the better. I've lost two Cycas now so I won't risk them again, much as I like them.
