Freddy, it`s coming to the end of the season for them, but, have you been dead-heading and feeding? Is it competing with other plants. All, of these could have an impact on the flowering.:thumb:

Hi Freddy - my Dahlias have been very poor this year. It is supposed to have been a good year for them with all that rain, but I think it has been too cold. They come from Mexico and I think they like it a bit hotter.

I would be thinking about saving the tubers and hoping next year is better. Don't lift the tubers till the frost kills the top growth. That way the tuber will go dormant, and won't waste energy trying to regrow this year.

Hi Dai. I haven't really needed to dead-head as all the flowers have ended up in a vase. As for feeding, I can't say I have fed them, but the bed got a good dose of composted manure at the start. There's no competition from other plants, in fact, all in all they look pretty healthy. Cheers...freddy.

Hi PeterS. Like I said, mine look pretty good, generally. It's just that SOME of the blooms now look a bit washed out, compared to how they were a few weeks back. By washed out, I mean the colour isn't as intense. Cheers...freddy.

Hi folks. To save starting another thread, I thought I'd post this here. What I'd like are recommendations for a red decorative Dahlia, and I MEAN red :) Cheers...freddy.

Hi Pam. The thing is, you can't always tell from the pictures exactly what colour you're getting, in fact, it CAN be misleading. I guess that's what I'll have to do though. Thanks anyway.

Evening Freddy, I`ve a client who`s been looking for a truly RED Dahlia for about 3 years. She`s even been in touch with Dahlia breeders and exhibiters, with no success at all. I`ve been looking for about 2 years for her, again with no success.

Thanks Peter for your advice about not lifting the tubers until the frost kills the top growth as I was going to lift them within the next few days so that saves me a job at least for now. Hel.xxx.
