Is it in a shady position @SamTheOldGoat?

If you chop it now, you are going to delay flowering.

No fresh buds at the base I don't think..... I thought maybe down to the larger bushy area....
That's no issue as none are anywhere near flowering. There's a bed of maybe 10 in this one so real rush.....

Rip them out for the sake of the other flowers. I put some El Pasos's in a few weeks back and they're doing great, fast growers. Bit late now but if your'e quick (and the sun keeps hiding) these will do the trick : http://www.angliabulbs.com/dahlia-el-paso/details/

      Good luck.

I wondered if anyone knows a mail order supplier that sells fully grown Dahlias? Well, growing dahlias, not necessarily fully grown. Our garden centre has lots but I'm looking for some of the dinner plate ones.

Another one of my plants looks like it might have the virus. In the worst case scenario, I'm wondering where I could get more plants if I have to get rid of the lot :-/

The range had some unnamed ones in a good size for 3.99.
My local nursery have species ones at 4 for 4.99 but they are a bit smaller. Not sure if any of these are dinner plate ones though. You could try wyevale but they will be £££.

It seems this virus thingy is rather serious. Is it that prevalent?
I never bother with pinching out as they always seem to send out plenty of side shoots. Maybe I should? I pretty much let them get on with it, just taking out the 'side buds' on the flowering stem.

I'm not really sure - it must be quite prevalent for it to be mentioned a lot. I'm surprised one of mine had it as they were bought from one of the best suppliers. I think another might have it too, but I'm going to wait to see if that is just chlorosis from growing so rapidly.

I agree with you Freddy, also I use them as cut flowers so that acts as a natural way of pruning/pinching out.

Hiya Jack. I must admit following some posts, I was a bit nervous as a few of the lower leaves have some light patches, but further up all looks ok, and they're growing well.
I'm not looking to grow specimens and I too like to have cut flowers :blue thumb:

@JackJJW let the supplier know and the name of the plant , but it wasnt chlorosis from your photo so you have probably caught it in time

@Freddy lower leaves is not to worry they do go yellow and will be falling off soon enough

                  Spruce will do.

Freddy - mine was really very bad all over the plant, every part of every leaf had the yellow spots and it was noticeably different from all of the others. The tell tale for me were a few patches that were very clear circles of yellow. That just didn't look like natural chlorosis.

All the others seem OK apart from one which I'm keeping my eye on, but I think that one may have suffered from me not potting on fast enough. So I'll see how it goes over the next week.

                    Hello chums :)
My plants are growing quite nicely now. Put some stakes in at the weekend.

I have noticed an orange sap coming from one of the bulbs I have planted in the garden. The bulb is just under the surface of the soil. Is this something to be concerned about?
