Thanks David - it tells me how to grow them, but they are from S America and we are not quite as warm up here. I think I would do better with an Alaskan Canna. :D

Peter, even down here they need to go in the greenhouse over winter. I would definitely recommend them.:thumb:

Just been having a belated look at your garden David, some nice plants there.:thumb:

I think Durban would be ok up in Harrogate if started of in a greenhouse with a little heat and planted out early June.:)

How did I miss this David :cnfs: A lovely little garden you have there. It was funny cause I seen a few of those durban cannas today and thought they looked cool but didn't know what the were. They've been planted by a local road. Can u take cuttings :D

What is a Durban Canna as opposed to just a Canna? I have bought at least six or eight Canna tubers, but all but one failed to grow. I also bought a cheap plant in flower in Morrisons, which did OK but rotted over the winter under glass.

I think I am not cut out for Cannas - but I will try again as they are impressive.

Peter, Tropicannas ( Durban Canna ) are slightly hardier than the normal Canna lilies. That`s why so many councils are now using them for roadside displays. Buy a plant from a reputable garden centre or nursery then ask on here or pm me, on how to look after it.:thumb:
