For anyone as mad about Ancient Monuments as I am - here is a nice example of a Burial Cyst which still has its capstone intact.

This part of the moor around Bellever Forest is littered with prehistoric remains and is a real treat for weekend archaeologists like me!

The atmosphere at these places is magical.

Thanks Kandy - you are so right - I think we forget what beauty lies on our own doorstep in this country. Every county has some hidden natural treasure and beauty to recommend it. Maybe we could all start at thread about the area we live in and the places of beauty therein and it could act as a gazeteer to give us ideas of nice places to visit.

Kandy, you are not too far from us - only a few hours away, if you ever fancy coming down.:thumb:

Hi Kath, that sounds like a good idea though at the moment were I live we are surrounded by agricultural fields and no lovely Moorland and Monuments like you have:D

If I had my way we would be living on the Isle of Wight as it has everyhting there for me but jobs are rare and the property prices are very high in the places we would like to live.Failing that we love Exmoor but even there it is the same problem as the Isle of Wight.:(

We are going down to Minehead for two weeks in the summer in our caravan as we have never stayed there in the summer months only in the winter so want to see it in all it's summer glory. How far is that from where you are?:)

Minehead is a fair old trek from us, only because there is no direct fast route! But it is right on Exmoor's doorstep and close to nice villages such as Lynmouth!

It would be nice to meet up for a lunch or something Kandy :)
