    Love that swan photo!
Always liked Weymouth, I've visited there on holiday a few times over the years and had some good times.
I remember my first visit there back in 1979, when myself and a few mates hired a minibus for a week and did our 'south coast tour' holiday.
We were all speedway fans, so we included a visit to a match at the old Radipole Lane stadium (now sadly gone I believe) and had a high old time in the bar afterwards chatting with the local supporters, a friendly bunch as I recall.
Sleeping arrangements on our 'tour' were fairly basic, we spent most nights sleeping in the minibus as best we could. I recall on the night we stopped in Weymouth, three of us actually kipped in our sleeping bags against the wall on Weymouth beach, preferring the sea air to the fug in the minibus. Would that be allowed now?

Sounds like a good trip Trunky:dbgrtmb: Probably not now, but there are beaches where i've stayed overnight fishing. I stayed in a tent at Seatown in 1976, but that bit of the cliff has long washed into the sea. Weymouth is really busy now, the traffic was heavy on saturday, not looking forward to it during the summer, with the olympics as well.

There are 2 new access roads into it now, but still the same gridlocked middle:sad:

Is it just going to be Weymouth that will busy, or will it ripple out as far as say Swanage & Bridport? And how will the shops cope? if it's anything like when the intake turns up at Butlins Minehead, the nearby stores will be picked clean of lager & burgers in minutes, but the Olympics visitors probably have different tastes.

I imagine people will want to get away from the crowds so I expect a lot will be staying in the satelite towns and villages. With the recession, i'm sure the shops won't want to miss out by not having enough to sell.
Its been the busiest weekend down here of the year so far, Morrisons was packed, 10 deep queues, I overheard the supervisors saying "Are there any more relief checkout staff?"

Must be something Vegan going on around here, the Soya Milk shelf was empty:ouch1:

Oo, just spoke to a mate who is fishing Cogden, he says there are about 50 anglers down there already, not even Easter yet:dunno:

Plaice? I was going to leave having a go for them for a few weeks or so, especially as I have a stinking cold at the moment.

Also wondered if the Olympics would also cause the area to be busier than normal all summer due to people who normally holiday in that area avoiding the busy time.

Yes, he said Flatties were coming out, he's not had anything other than lost rigs so far but is giving it another hour.

That could be the reason it was so busy this weekend Scrunge, normally quiet upto easter, then goes quietish till the summer break.

It was a nice place 'till they removed all the roundabouts (and their flowers) and replaced half of the esplanade flower beds with shrubs and are replacing half of Greenhill Gardens with shrubs, which meant half of my work disappeared and are now putting up a 'tourist tower' blot.:frown:
After living there for 22 years it was time for a change and Wareham is certainly different.
