    I was thinking I might compost one of the Amethyst Reflections sdlgs for not performing very well. It has had a few extra petaloids, but its heart really hasn't been into being a double. Then today I get a flower that changes my mine, and I might let it hang around.

    A small, 4" bi-tone TET, Evermore Lights x Spiny Sea Urchin, opened for the first time today:

    We often think think orange daylily = ditch lily, but I have 2 that are there just for the edge - first results next year:heehee:. One is Golden Tentacles, and the other is an Eder sdlg #0009. Semi-evergreen, 6", TET. For me it is evergreen and reblooms.

        Did anyone watch Gardeners World last night? Carol Klein did a bit on daylilies, bit of a disappointment really but suppose she did her best, mind you when she said "like all lilies they have an intoxicating scent"??? don't know where she gets that I've yet to find one with that strong a scent and of course they aren't a true lily in they don't grow from a bulb, and she said most were sterile??? she really needs to look on here doesn't she, also why why why don't they show some of the newer hybrids what did they have Stella d'ora, Bonanza very nice daylily and it was a polytepal flower but hey there are so many more out there that if people saw them they'd be more encouraged to grow these lovely plants, suppose there was a flower of Peacock Maiden :wallbanging:.

          I don't get the program, but, I have had a couple of the very strong scented ones, and I could smell them as soon as I walked into the area. It burned my nose and I got rid of them. I don't like their scent, and I don't check for it. :eeew: My little sister has Stella d'Ora because she knows no one passing her house will pick them. :yikes: The idea that they are sterile comes from people who don't believe the seeds need to be chilled. You could sow seeds in situ (it is recommended that several be planted touching) and let nature do its thing. Here, it is too warm to meet the chilling requirement.

            Just been looking though all the amazing photos of your Day Lilies. OMG I had absolutely no idea how many varieties there are and the wide range of colours/shapes/sizes. I have a couple of let's face it pretty boring clumps of who knows varieties and Stella d'Ora but that's it. I can easily see why these beauties can become an obsession. Thank you so much for letting me see what a wonderful genus they are and they are such a useful addition to any herbaceous border flowering when many other things have finished flowering. Whether some of the more exotic ones would do ok up here in Scotland I'm not too sure. This summer has been fantastic but I don't know how day Lilies would manage during some of our less than hot summers!

              There are many that grow well in Canada - you just have to pick the right types for your area [usually dormant or semi-evergreen]. The evergreen types I favour are for warmer areas.

                I had to get my little blue book today - the one that has the planting diagrams for this years crop. Here is Two Part Harmony x Free Wheelin', a 6.5" TET. Cann't say much else about it since it was started in January and planted out in April.
                Two Part Harmony x Free Wheelin\'.JPG
                Finallt showing up as a double is Legendary Appeal. Most of the year it has been a single, large, cream TET with yellow edge.

                Jungle Butterfly is back;

                Guess who I crossed to it - it is one of those that every time I go out there and see it, I get excited and want to do something with it. I haven't been able to get it to set any seeds, so I use it as pollen parent now. Of course it is Angel Fairy Tern x Judge Nancy;
                Angel Fairy Tern x Judge Nancy (2).JPG
                I also crossed it to Julie Newmar and a hard orange with red eye, Better Lucky Than Good x Hippie Crash Pad which is reblooming.

                    Hi All

                    Nearly all over for 99% of them :help:, but "parade of Peacock"s has come in to its own , just watched GW yes a bit of a let down its as if the film crew were looking for something to film !! with the disappointing chat about the daylilys and going on about most sterile we should get Wylie on to them !

                    some cracker ones on Ebay , but NO i can't buy any more , the only one I really want is , Moose Man and summer fireworks , other wise I am holding out for now plus I still have quite a few new ones from last year to flower , so hopefully next year , seed pods are coming on a treat, the ones I properly pollinated with tags .

                      My reblooms are really getting underway, and the seedlings are showing improvements from their initial blooms. Articulate Matrix x Rainbows In Heaven - I didn't remember it from June, but here it is today:

                      And a seedling from Dream Legacy:

                      Notice the back one has 2 petaloids sticking up.

                        I have had a seedling, Blue Oasis x Unk, that has had extra petaloids all season on most of the flowers. Some times just one extra to make it look like a poly, but today it has 3 extra, giving the impression it might be trying to double.

                          Warm temperatures and a long season of bloom has an advantage - plants rebloom and show what they are capable of. Today it was the turn of Soldier of Fortune. Earlier it flowered, but without an edge. Today it has started flowering again, but with its toothy edge:

                                I am awarding one of my new seedlings its location number in my garden instead of what it is supposed to be. The label says it is a cross between Red And White Delight and Julia's Choice, but it shows no traits of either, so it is now BSA28, a TET, 5", evergreen, reblooms.
                                BSA#28.JPG
                                I had this same problem with the same person on BSA#7, a dark purple applique throat.:frown:
                                I know they are both TETs because I have 10 seeds of BSA#28 x BSA#7:heehee:, and BSA#7 has crossed to other TETs.
