Me again BM hope you don't mind but Bob and I really love your idea of a planting space in your decking area and would like to copy it if we may?

Could you suggest a tropical looking plant that could go into the hole?

The site is a little windy although has a privet hedge about 6ft away from it and it also gets sun/daylight from morning all day long.

We are in zone 5 if that helps you any.

We haven't a hope in hell of having such a nice jungle feel like you have but we would so like a little slice of it! [IMG]

Hi Helen check your zone on this map I think you are zone 8a some of the palms are hardy enough, the trachcarpus and chamaerops even some of the bananas musa basjoo or musella lasiocarpa use the b/man formula of winter care and you can't go wrong.

    Copy away Helen :D

A nice Trachycarpus Fortunei would be good. £100 will buy you a 3 foot trunk or so. Other cheaper possibles are things like fatsia, more shrubby plants but I like things that go up as a rule.

My first choice would be the trachy also because they are super hardy.

You also need to consider proximity to buildings as some trees would look good too.

I hope to be moving to a house with a large(but narrow)garden in a month or so.Top of the projects list has GOT to be trying to create something along the same lines.I dont have the same talent that you obviously posess, but hopefully I can create something that has the same `feel`.Well done on what you`ve created and thanks for the inspiration.Cheers...freddy
