well ive had an email back from ronseal

    "Thank you for your email.

As a goodwill gesture I can send you some more Ronseal decking cleaner and
decking stain, get back to me with the colour of stain used and your
    telephone number.

When you get the decking cleaner put it on neat and scrub vigorously with a
stiff bristled brush this will rough up the wood fibres in order to take
the stain better and give more adherence, wash it off with a pressure
washer if you can, do not sand down decking as this will harden up the wood
    fibres giving poor adherence.

Let me know if you accept my offer.

    Kind regards"

I have replied asking if they would be kind enough to send oil and not stain.

Imo the use of a pressure washer will lead to rapid degrading of the finish as you are forcing moisture into the timber.

The same principle applys to pressure cleaning of buildings to remove algae/ lose paint prior to ree painting..... It is not recomended.

IMO, ronseals advice is flawed, the product is either suitable for the job or itisn't roughening wood fibres is imo a cop out
