YDD, I just showed my husband your pics here when he came upstairs & even though he didn't have his glasses on (that means he can;t see properly, i'm not being cheeky) he said it looked really nice, he liked it. 'Oh he said, is that from her back door?'He will have a proper look tomorrow [IMG]

Can't afford it yet but if i can just get everybody's pics to show him, he's got to go for it. Now, where were they all....? Got Sarra's, ydd's, scotkats....

    cheers

Ive always done a slight gap about 3mm when Ive done decks.

Remember to build in a slight fall aswell, something thats often forgotten.

I tend to go overkill and put down 3" compacted mot and a good douseing of diuron, I dont like membrane and rarely use it.

I have to agree, mine shrinks in summer, no-one else notices cause I have attention to detail OCD but it does shrink. The frame will also breathe to some extent [IMG] I laid membrane under a gravel layer before the boards went on, no weeds in 5-6 years !!! The more noggins and the thicker wood you use the better as it will clatter less under foot. Mine fells as solid as concrete to walk on, some attempts I have walked on do indeed feel like they are on a boat [IMG]

I made this thread a while ago which maybe of use. Just my guide not necessarily best practice ;)

So we did Sandra we have a large back garden that is our 2nd area of decking have an area of decking between greenhouses.

And maybe going to deck below the greenhouses this year an on going project back garden till we get it way we want.

Rome was not built in a day and all costs money.

I know where your coming from Gecko, but I've worked with timber for nearly 40yrs and I aint found a bit yet that dont swell and shrink with moisture.
Find that and you would be really onto something. [IMG] :D
