Never heard of it until now - but just installed it thanks to you :) Should sit better with my OS being 64-bit?

        I never clear cookies.
Surely, I know a lot of people dont like them, but they do make life a lot easier.#
Otherwise you spend most of your time online trying to get back to where you were before.
How do we know when a site updates?

If I'm not mistaken, the makers of XenForo (forum software used by GC), have a policy to not display version numbers except to admins, so you can't tell.

Maybe the answer then is for one of the admins to post a message on the top of the main page informing members that there has been an upgrade and we should delete cookies.

BTW, Firefox has a feature that allows one to either delete all cookies or just the ones pertaining to a specific site.

I agree with you, Woo. I use Chrome, clear all my cookies, run 3 virus programs after use of the Computer every night, and still have been having problems of the site running slow, or just freezing. The page will appear but sometimes only half of it, followed jerkily by the rest. Sometimes when typing a word nothing happens and then the typed letters will appear altogether. Having said that, it has lessened somewhat and it's pretty quick tonight.:dunno::snork:

              @ARMANDII

As regards the site being slow, are you sure it's the forum software and not the actual server (or path to it) where GC is hosted (in the U.S.A.)?
Do a traceroute and it will tell you how many "hops" your requests have to do and it will also tell you the amount of time each "hop" takes until you actually reach the server.

I just did one and it took me 15 hops to get to GC.
My request first went to my ISP, then to two "switches" in London, then another two in New York, more in Chicago until it got to GC.

Try it for yourself, I'm assuming you are running Windows.
Click on Start, then Run then type in:

              Code:
               cmd [then enter]
When the command prompt window appears, type in:

              Code:
               tracert gardenerscorner.co.uk [then enter]
Depending on how many "hops" it takes, it may take a few minutes until the trace is complete.
Now you can add up all the times (in milliseconds).

To close the command prompt window, type:

              Code:
               exit [ then enter]

Thanks Dave, much appreciated. I think Clueless, who's "trade is computer programming, was also having problems as he commented a couple of nights ago that the site was running "dog slow". As other people said all other sites were running at their normal pace. :rolleyespink:

                  No problem @ARMANDII :dbgrtmb:

I'm finding the delay on my side seems to range from 3 to 6 seconds.

Agreed, as the tests above show, it's pretty quick, but keep in mind that on the internet, things can change pretty quickly so let's keep fingers crossed. :)

I think the logging out bit is actually happening after firefox is altered, rather than this site. Happens to be from time to time but across several different sites, not just GC.

Waterfox good for 64-bit, as is Cyberfox which is what I use.

Dunno, but I noticed that Smiles are now in a tabbed chooser, which I haven't seen (or maybe just not noticed) before, so might be as a result of an update.

Woo: I find that "AW SNAP" errors in Chrome can be related to how many windows / TABs I have open. I have LOTS open (and now have a plugin so I can temporarily close most of them - and that has cheered things up a lot, but before then slow-down was dire)

Try closing many / most tabs if it happens again (and you can), and also don't let it reopen all tabs on startup (if you can live without them all reopening where-you-were) as the history that is stored as well makes for some complexity for Chrome to manage).

I upgraded from Firefox to Chrome years ago, Firefox was so unbearably unstable when being used to debug websites, Chrome would have to become utterly dire for me to be bothered to put the effort into switching back again.

When clicking on the Reply (AKA Quote) button for a second time to quote 2 posts in a thread I'm getting the 'working' display at top RH side and it will stay like that for as long as I leave it, never inserting the second quote, until I either refresh or close.

Using Win8 & IE10, this what I see after successfully adding the 1st quote and trying (unsuccessfully) to add a second quote:

Maybe it is a windows thing then as I did experience similar things on my old laptop, but since I swapped to a MacBook I have none of these problems & GC & all sites seem to run at lighting speed for me now.. :phew:
