I, basically, do what @pete does but using my desktop (don't have any other type of computer). I put the SD card into my computer, open File Explorer, highlight the pictures I want to put on the computer and drag and drop them into the software I want them.

I use a photo manager that came with my camera (three cameras ago) and it works fine. I use a wired mouse which may not be quite as sensitive as a cordless so don't get any wobble (technical term) when doing it. I then stick the SD card back in the camera and delete the photos on the card. In all the years I've been doing it I've never had a problem with the SD card but I make sure I don't touch any sensitive part of the card.

I use a cable that fits the mini USB port on my camera (Olympus) plug it into a USB port on my computer and Windows Explorer recognises the SD card in the camera as a USB drive. I can then cut the photos and paste into the desired folder on the computer. Used this method for Windows XP, 7, 10 and 11.

I use the cable that came with the mobile phone as it both charges the phone & lets me transfer files from the phone to the computer & vice versa! It's just like having a big USB stick really only it asks me what I want to do, on the phone itself. I have the option of letting it just charge or connect to the PC & transfer files.

I haven't had a camera for a few years now, just use my phone. The photos find their way onto my PC's hard drive over wifi, no cables or sd card messing about, they get transferred automatically using OneDrive (other cloud services are available).

My camera does have the ability to connect to wifi but to be honest Ive never investigated how it works.
I didn't realise it could be used for transferring photos from camera to PC.

Oops! I've just hit the agree button @shiney and realised it looks as if I'm agreeing you live in the stone age. What I mean is...I'm living there too, not needing complications.
