I think we both are doing okay, miraflores, but pete is better at this game than me so I'm just keeping my fingers crossed I don't lose it. [IMG]

Couldn't resist butting in with this chat about Pandoreas. This is the 'straight' P. jasminoides, which I've had growing around the kitchen door where it withstood some pretty biting winter gales. There are a few colour variations plus a form with cream variegated leaves, but I prefer this for its rich colour and wonderful, dark glossy leaves. Here in S. Devon it can flower from spring through till after Christmas, which is no small effort from a climber native to Queensland in Oz.

Exxcellent, DaveP. As I mentioned above, I have the "plain" and the varigated. Does yours have that lovely slight delicate "powdery" smell?

I have only just read this thread for the first time and am greatly impressed by the beauty of this tree
From the leaves it looks to be very closely related to the Acacia?? Or are they in fact the same family??
I have some Acacia trees brought back as seeds from Portugal some years ago

I'm doing a weekly update on my Delonix, Babe.

Hi, whis4ey. Both the Delonix and Acacia of from the Fabaceae family, but the Delonix is from the Caessalpinioideae sub-family and the Acacia the Mimosoideae, as is the Albizia.

Another from the Fabaceae family is the Sesbania of the Faboideae sub-family. I have given a link below to a thread here on this tree. Other similar frondy trees are the Jacaranda from the Bignoniaceae family, the Ailianthus from the Simaroubaceae family and the Schinus from the Anacardiaceae family.

I have two large Jacarandas which are in bloom now (I have a thread up on their progress under Other Plants) and am also growing Albizias from seed for Bonsai purposes, which is what my Delonix will be, albeit a LARGE Bonsai as I'll put it in a LARGE pot!

    Sesbania ...

Only in a conservatory, whis4ey. If I get more seeds, do you want to try? My sister has them going in Northern Germany for conservatory / summer outdoors purposes.

LOL - wow another person growing Sesbania. I brought one back from Florida - grown from seed. When it got to big for the greenhouse I put it into a sheltered spot - and it flowered. [IMG] [IMG] A red laburnum - absolutely gorgeous - but sadly it did not survie the following winter.

But I had cuttings, and another is in an even more shelted place - with a cutting for insurance. Gorgeous plants.

I wondered if you'd find this, Fran, as it was mentioned you had it.

I think it is wonderful and such a beauty. I think I'm off tomorrow morning early to collect more seed in case there is a following.

Even if they have to live in a living room or conservatory, what a beauty.

If you get any more seeds I would love to try L of L
I have had success with an Acacia as I said. A few of them have survived in a heated greenhouse over winter, and three have even flowered for me. So maybe I have a chance? [IMG]
I still have four left alive, although one is making a great effort to die at the moment :(
