Today, the brother in law, who is a moody whingebag that's been doing our heads in for a while, said something to my wife (his sister) that made me, for the first time in as long as I can remember, genuinely tempted to wallop someone. I was so livid. We were in the car on the way to MIL's house (where B.I.L still lives, despite being 30 odd) when the phone call happened. Wife started crying and hung up her phone, and said she just wanted to go home. I wont bore people with the details, but his insult was toward her, and to my son. I decided I was going to see him anyway, and had full intention of hitting him. I saw reason on the way, as annoying as he is, the MIL doesn't want to see her son get hit, and it wouldn't be nice for my young son to see his dad fighting his uncle, so I bottled it up and remained livid.

Having dropped wife and son off at MIL's house, I continued on to my mate's, as I'd offered to give him a hand with a bit of decorating. Stood in his kitchen, still livid, he and another mate sparked up a smoke each right in front of me. For enough, its their right. So there's me, wound up to hell, watching two of my mates smoking in front of me, knowing that either one would hand me the baccy without question if I just asked. But I didn't. I wanted to, but I resisted. I'm quite pleased with myself for that.

He told her he didn't want her to come round, and that he'd had enough of kids. Given the circumstances, in particular that there are only two kids in their side of the family, my son and an older nephew, and the nephew has been away for the past week, and given other past remarks, it was clearly a dig at my son.

That in itself was not enough to make me as livid as I was. As far as I'm concerned I don't care whether or not he has any part in my son's life. I have an uncle who used to be horrible, and I just didn't bother with him. Simple solution. I expect it will be the same for my son and the BIL. What I really took exception to is that as he still lives with his mammy, ie my son's granny, his hostility risks jeopardising the relationship between my son and his granny. My son loves his granny, and vice versa, and there is no way I'm going to allow somebody to ruin that. The sad reality of life is that we don't usually get that much time to bond with our grandparents, and in fact the lad will never know one of his grandparents, has almost certainly forgotten his honourary grandad (my step dad) that died earlier this year. To deprive him of his remaining grandparents just because some moody, arrogant, spineless weasel of worm like character can't find enough backbone to live his own life or at least go out for a couple of hours if he's not in the mood for company, that would be unforgivable.

No worries there. All the legal stuff sorted, including joint power of attorney if she loses her marbles before she goes. It did cross my mind that things could get uncomfortable in the event, but with BIL being the horrible person he's turned into, I'll have no qualms about either evicting him or making him pay rent for wife's share. When he used to be a likeable lad, I think both his sisters would have just turned a blind eye to their inheritance and left him to get on with it, but SIL is far less patient than my wife, and my wife has had enough now.

Truth be told, he is not a horrible lad at the core. I believe he needs professional help. When their dad died a few years ago, everyone went through the natural grieving process and gradually moved on, except him, he reached the angry stage, and then just sort of stayed there.

          B.I.L.s love them

Mine arrived Dec 23rd, staying until Jan 4th
Gave his sister a tenner for his keep

Smokes non stop, and at the moment I am trying to get over a chest infection,it just will not go with the irritation of the smoke (was a none smokeing home, the place stinks)

Rams down my throat how I am a working man, but he has a UNI DEGREE and 500k in the bank

A tenner, he has had and will get free full board for two weeks, including unlimited beer, and a £22 pantomime ticket for tonight, I am the mug with the transport, he does not drive , and uses shanks pony if the bus is to cost

He has his UNI degreee, but I am the man who when visiting this LAWYER sitting in the dark doing his books as there is no power, Replaces the fuses
          light bulbs, sockets etc

I am 65 stood at the top of a twelve foot ladder in his sitting room replacing the lamps whilst, he 50 advises I am doing it wrong

He has been here ONE week, and so far has broken my front door, the tap in the bathroom, the window in his bedroom, and broken the knob of the DAB RADIO in his room
First night of his visit he complained that there was no bedroom side lights, I had to investigate and turned the wall socket ON

He turned up with a list of books he wanted catalogued, My job, so I was setting up a data base, and he said it is a simple thing to do, so I advised as it was that simple perhaps he should do it himself

Then when asking him to read the titles and author out for each one as I typed, when asking for the author he states any fool should know that

I am not a weak man but for family harmony I just go along and bite my tongue
What gets me I suppose is the envy, I have worked all my life for what little I have, and all he can say is how he only has £500k in the bank, whilst giving us a tenner for two weeks full board, free drink and theatre tickets,
How he has a UNI degreee and I am just an erk
I just say I went to the ROYAL NAVAL UNIVERSITY OF LIFE

If there is a murder up in FIFE it was me what done it GUV

And what it all comes down to, as I see it, is this: When your time is nearly up, all the money in the world will do nothing for you, and you look back on your life, will you be able to say to yourself, "I did alright. I made my mark. People liked me, people respected me, some even loved me.". Will he be able to say that?

I don't know, because I don't really know either you or your BIL. But I reckon that's what's important.

I smoke but hubby packed up a while back. We used to smoke in the house but it always bothered me. When he gave up I made myself go outside. I dont allow people to smoke inside anymore either. If I can brave the wind, cold, rain etc then so can they. It's pretty rude for someone to assume they can do anything they want when they are a GUEST. I honestly don't know how you can put up with this chump!

                  speaking of which ....

one of my clients is an airhostess .... she gets me golden virginia tobacco .... 5 packs of 50 grams from the duty free shops

the last batch which I got earlier this week, and which she bought in the USA was $29.75 for 5 packs (approx £20) ....

                  ($35 less $5.25 discount for airline/military staff)

one pack here at tesco costs approx £14.65 .... so, 5 packs would cost well over £70 (a saving of £50)

just goes to show how much the government taxes the smokers here in the UK, and they wonder why people smuggle tobacco from places like France

I obviously must have my faults, no one is perfect, My problem is OLD FASHIONED VALUES
I still open doors for females, dof my lid /tug my forelock to superiours, Salute coffins as they pass and expect respect from people
