Diesel Dilemma ?

Ever been to the dentist and had gas when they pull out a tooth? Or ever had the "gas and air" mix when in hospital for certain procedures such as giving birth, colonoscopies, etc.? Thats Nitrous Oxide, or Nox. So if its so dangerous, why do they use it?

Regarding the cleaner diesel. Modern diesel is cleaner than it used to be, mainly because around 5% of it is FAME (no, not the old tv series!). 100% Fame diesel is available, but causes many problems in engines. The so-called "diesel bug" as well as higher fuel consumption. Surely using more fuel, however "clean" the exhaust gases are will create more pollution?

 

We bought a Diesel Kia three years ago to pull our caravan because when we had petrol cars we found that there wasn't enough torque in the petrol cars to pull the caravan well.We couldn't believe what is going on with the governments stance and that possibly in the Autumn budget things might be announced to punish diesel car owners either at the pumps or some other way

I said to Mr Kandy we need to wait and see because if we change cars again we will lose money in selling the Kia and looking at a lot of dealers websites the only cars heavy enough to pull our caravan is a diesel and they don't manufacture big enough petrol cars for our needs

It is right what people are saying that because of the lead in petrol. As years ago people were encouraged to buy diesel and I think the fuel was cheaper in those days for the diesel owner

There was a bit on the news last evening where an infra red camera was supposedly showing diesel fumes coming out of the exhausts of cars but as Mr K pointed out the camera was showing the heat puthering out of the vehicles whether they were petrol or diesel cars.

In all honesty they should look look at the deadly fumes coming out of all forms of polluting transport up in the air and down on the ground and not just pick on one type of car fuel

 

Thanks for all the input . My friend is looking at a Nissan Juke 1.5dci , this I think has been Euro 6 compliant since 2015 (?). Then again as he may not do a huge mileage in it , and not regular motorway slogging , possibly the petrol may be a better choice.
My Mitsubishi diesel is Euro 5 , but two thirds of my mileage is on the motorway. Mitsubishi now use the Peugeot 1.6 diesel in their cars for Euro 6 compliance.
I will put all these things to him , but I know I will get rolling eyes and a blank look

 

When are they going to put a stop to people polluting when they breck wind

 

We have to drive at leased 5 miles to even get to a bus stop and then if you wanted to go to town on a bus you have only 1 hour before you can catch the only one bus back again

 

We got better broadband than buses

 

Most of the park and ride car parks around here have been used to build on.
20yrs ago it was all the rage, now only one I can think of remains.

One which has been built on, now has a sign telling you to use the only one I can think over that is still open, and directs you too it.
Via the town centre, as it is right across the other side of town.

 

That's the point! If the park and ride was in the centre a) nobody would ride and b) it would take an hour to drive the same distance that the bus (ride) does in twenty minutes. Oxford city centre is gridlocked already without encouraging more cars in.
