You shouldn't read the daily mail. It gives you cancer. A boffin studied the connection between all the things that according to the daily mail, give you cancer. He found that the one common fact is that they were all mentioned in thedaily mail. Obviously the article I read was tongue in cheek mockery of the daily mail's "everything will kill you" prevailing stance. But yes, sports drinks are high in sugar, and sometimes other 'bad' things too. It's also true that they do not give you energy, in that they are not (usually) stimulants or anything. However it's all about common sense. If you drink 5 bottles per day of lucazade sport, to wash down all the burgers and chips, then you'll pile on weight. If on the other hand you have a bottle of lucazade sport and a bottle of plain water as your hydration during a 2 hour martial arts session, or even 2 bottles of lucazade sport over a longer session, then all the sugar content is going to be burned before it touches the sides so to speak. The other thing with sports drinks is their electrolyte content. When training, you sweat. Sometimes a lot. Sweat contains electrolytes. Quite literally, your life depends onyour electrolyte balance. If you lose to much via sweat, then your nerves can't carry signals properly and your muscles, including your heart, can't function correctly. It does take quite a lot to get dangerously low, but it certainly doesn't do any harm to top up your electrolytes during intensive physical activity when sweating profusely over a sustained period. Sports drinks are exactly that. They are drinks meant for those actively participating in sports. For that, they are good.
I have personal experience with people who have been close to death due to dehydration and/or electrolyte issues. One had a stroke (sad but unavoidable?) and was on the floor for nearly 3 days, the other was a diabetic who refused to hear his body talk. If you feel crappy from your new regime, for heavens sake stop it! Common sense and moderation rule. what is simpler than that. and I totally agree about statistics. Most crack addicts drank milk at some point in their life..
I'd never heard of these, thanks for the info. Although I'll have to have a good check of their ingredients because I've tried other products and linked random scary symptoms with one common factor, aspartame, which often features in low or zero calorie products. I know where I stand with lucazade sport. I normally take one bottle, pour half into an empty bottle, then top both up with water. I've found this gives me about the right balance of everything, and keeps me functioning fine. Water alone doesn't cut it, and lucazade sport is too sickly when undiluted.
Randomly decided to measure myself this morning My bust measurement has changed from 46 inches to 42 inches My waist has changed from 35.5 to 32.5 inches My hips have changed from 47 inches to 44 inches And i have put on 4lbs lol My bmi is bad im classed as obese but my waist to hip ratio is excellent aparently at 7.2 lol Im going to continue to ignore my weight and just aim to get my waist back down to 29 inches and continue to build and stengthen my muscles.
Weight is only one measure, as is bmi. They are guidelines. A rugby player or boxer might weigh in at 18 stone but be solid muscle. Conversely someone with a sedentary lifestyle might weigh 4 stone less, but be mostly lard. If using weight and bmi as a measure of health, it can only work if you haven't changed anything except your diet. If you add in exercise, then weight and bmi are nothing more than convenient guidelines, and as you say @Dips, the tape measure or even your clothes plus a mirror are better indicators of progress. For me personally, how far I get through a 2 hour martial arts session and how much I get beaten up during the sparring phase are the best progress indicators. I know that the more weight I carry, the more energy I use, the more I overheat, and the more tired I get, which means that when it gets to the sparring phase,I move slower and get whacked more I'm tackling this by shedding some weight, but I fully expect slow progress because my muscles will be gaining weight while my belly is losing it.
This is true clueless I ignore bmi tbh the lightest i have ever been as an adult still puts me in as overweight. I think its too simplistic as it doesnt destinguish between fat and muscles etc and esp for women as we have boobs to consider too. So even tho my bust measurement has reduced that reduction is all off my back and not off my actual boobs. They never get bloody smaller. But my wii likes BMI so i get a nagging everytime lol Currently im focusing on strengthening my right leg to be as strong as my left. I can stand on my left leg with my eyes closed with ease but the right one im all over the place with. Thats my goal for when i next see my physio in january anyway What is good is that on my wii my balance is almost perfect my left was 49.1 and my right was 50.9
