So what's in a name? Jeeze, you're getting het up over practically nothing IMO. There is a host of things that go under that label and thereby help people to find specific things they might be looking for. Do the blind object to being called blind? Or the deaf, deaf? Or any other condition you can think of.

For a number of years I worked for the local Disabled Christian Fellowship in Harlow. We had stationery with that title on both notepaper and envelopes. There was a sign to put up outside the church saying "Disabled Christian Fellowship Meeting, All are welcomed, disabled, able-bodied and everyone else!" It was thought up by the members themselves and they got a great kick out of it! I never met a single one of them that took exception to the word. And the lady that organised it all, she was confined to a power chair and freely admitted to being disabled, requiring disabled aids and representing the disabled on committees where topics such as access for the disabled, facilities for the disabled and parking for the disabled, were on the agenda. The areas under discussion included the new hospital, library and new car parks.

And so it shall be - so just to get all this straight , from this post on, let's start a list of suggested names to put in the poll. Everything from here will be included, ok?

    My suggestions are:

My view is stated above, but to summarise is:

Including the word "Disabled" in the forum name will give higher ranking to Googlers who, I think, are likely to include that word in their search phrase.

I'm happy to explain why I think that, but if anyone wants to ask I suggest they start a new thread rather than me pollute this one further :)

I'm certainly not I repeat NOT getting hot under the collar...I'm merely trying to put a point across from someone who has experience of disability, disabled people and their feelings...not what others "think" is correct or right. I deal with it 24/7/365..simple!

My viewpoint is that the word "Disabled" should not appear in either the forum name or description, we have already established that entering "disabled gardening forum" into google will bring users here to Gardeners corner due to one topic being discussed...this one. And that result puts Gardeners Corner top of the list, so there is no need to apply a label and risk offending someone, even if you do think (as a non disabled person) it will offend nobody.

It will offend me and my partner (currently a member, but non posting as yet) and others that I know of...so why do it?

Kristen, pm me if you wish to regarding google keywording and scores, I'm very familiar with it due to being paid for building sites, forums, communities, cemercial and other wise for the last 10 years.

This is not a rant, but something I am passionate about, the main thing being equality for all. And I dont think that kkristen is either, he does not strike me as that kind of person, we have a difference of opinion is all and have been trying to discuss it through.

"Gardening made easier" gets my vote.

    Steve...:)

    "Gardening made easier"

or .."Ideas To Make Gardening Easier"

    looks OK to me..:thumb:

    .........

What matters if your disabled or not - most people would welcome ideas
    for easier gardening wouldn't they?

With regard to labelling people - I hate people saying I am 'a diabetic'.
I am not! I am a person with diabetes.
So I agree no need to use the 'disabled' word.

NEVER have I seen such a load of nonsense political correctness, Just call it disabled gardening and have done. What next ree name disabled parking bays?

It is this sort of political correctness that actually creates stigma and discrimination.

      Heres my suggestion:

Disabled Gardening, with the forum intro, an area for discussion of aids and methods to help gardeners to be able to enjoy and get more from their gardens.
