 Aaron it sounds like you need to clear your cookies out..! Run your spyware & it should sort it..!

 In your user CP is your subscribed threads section, I find all the threads I have contributed to are all listed there.. I do get auto notification though if anyone posts in one of those threads after me, not sure if that has anything to do with it, but that way, on the whole I don't miss any threads.. :)

I don't reckon that either of those would be solutions that would work for me, and enable me to help others, I'm afraid.

I did have the notification emails activated, but the huge number of emails was problematic in itself, and I found there was often a significant delay before they arrives; I now have them set to come once a day - and now I think about it that doesn't work either because it happily emails me for threads I have already been back and seen - same issue, the system is not set up to track what I've read, so all it knows is that there is a new post since the last time it mailed me, regardless of whether I've read it or not.

I have 1,577 threads in my CP for things that I have replied to ... so that's a bit like the old Needle and Haystack in terms of keeping up with threads that have replies that I have not yet read!

I don't want to jump the gun, or appear ungrateful, but based on previous experiences with asking/hoping that things like this will be changed on GC I aint holding my breath. Will be delighted to be proven wrong though.

That's sort of working for me. The first time anyway...then I logged out, tried to log in with the new password I set (as prompted) and nothing. Didn't get the "don't recognise password" just returned to home page asking me to register. But...when I clicked on the link I was sent in the email, it took me straight the home page, logged in. Hmmmm.

This is the only website I have this issue with by the way - all others when I click "stay logged in" I do!

I wonder if these two threads are related?

I've seen this "Difficulty logging in" issue raised before, although not had a problem myself. The common elements are that it seems to be related to Cookies, and folk have not had the same problem with other forums.

I think that vBulletin relies heavily on cookies to "remember" what is read, and what not (unless the option for the database remembering what has been read is activated I now realise).

I find that after a while threads that I have read stop highlighting to show they are read (well, lo-lighting would be a better description). I expect that is cookies too - the cookies running out of space to store all the details that are required perhaps?. In my case a periodic reboot may clear some transient cookies out - but actually that is probably the same as closing the browser as I only do that when I reboot, and rebooting only occurs a couple of times a month ...

My cookie "bbthread_lastview" is pretty large, and there are few others, but nothing that looks ready to promote a failure ...

Well I don't know what is going wrong, but it's taken 20 minutes to log on this morning. I changed my password last night to something so easy that it is impossible in type incorrectly. I have ticked the "remember me" box. I did not log out, just closed down the internet page. This morning, surprise, surprise, I was not logged on. Sigh. Put in my username and new password. Guess what? Didn't work.

Did the forgotten password bit. Had to wait 20 minutes for a new password. Now I am logged in, but I am not going to change it...not much point when tomorrow when I log in, it won't work! Grrrrrr!!

I too find the threads being shown as read when I haven't looked at them. I also will open a section (say, Beginners Gardening) to find new posts that haven't shown in "latest posts".

I do not have this problem on other forums that use other software.

 I don't know then Aaron, it is usually down to cookies that cause the problems of logging in & stayoing logged in.. Do you use either Firefox or Google Chrome to access GC... I do & don'y get these problems.. Sometimes it is down to IE... For some reason Explora can have or cause problems with the log in here... Hence I use Google Chrome or Firefox for GC & all forums... When using them you tell them to remember you & your pass word when you log in the first time & they remember after that & it is usually fine for me..:)

Have any of the Mods / Admin taken this issue up on the vBulletin forum? Might be a common problem with a simple fix; or if they haven't encountered it before then it must be something related to the way this forum (specifically) is set up, and they may be able to help with what is different (e.g. by checking a "print out" of your config settings)

My experience of hosting web sites is that for every person who draws something to your attention there are a shed load more who just "click off", and it would be a shame if they are not enjoying the full benefit of GC, eh? :thumb:

Yes, well I'm on the verge of "clicking off"! I've had to ask for a password again!! The third time this morning as well and it's getting a little tedious now. I have changed my password AGAIN and I can guarantee it won't remember it the next time I close the site down and then revisit.

I am a member on another forum that uses VBulletin and have not had this issue at all. Cookies have been deleted as suggested and all it's done is delete my username/passwords from other places I remain logged in on.

Honestly, it sounds like a problem with this forum. Please have a look at it, please? :)

If I click on new posts, up comes the new posts. If I click again sometimes it will say there are no new posts since your last visit. Fair enough I guess ? If you click on 'quick links' and then 'todays posts' you will get everything including the ones which aren't read which will be highlighted.

The logging in issue is an old one. Sometimes you log in, looks like your not logged in...but... Click on arcade games and you will see you are infact logged in as New posts etc all appear. You must always tick the remember me box !

This has been mentioned in our forum although I am sure you will understand with a small unpaid team on an unfunded forum we do the best we can.:gnthb:

You can subscribe to a thread if you intend to follow it, it will advise you if a reply has been made :gnthb:

"You can subscribe to a thread if you intend to follow it, it will advise you if a reply has been made"

Yeah, but all it does is send you an email if a reply is posted, regardless of whether you have already read it or not - which brings us back to having vBulletin monitor what is read, and what not :thumb:

Can you get notification for threads specifically marked, as distinct from threads you have replied to? (I don't know the answer, but I thought they were one and the same, which for regulars would be an issue of not being able to see wood for the trees I expect)

yes you can just click on the thread and subscribe, but the reply was to this question.

    Which subscribing to would solve.

Also, its worth knowing if you click on the down arrow on the thread in either full thread view or 'new post' summary it takes you to the latest post.

I do tick the remember me box!!! I have had 5 different passwords in the past 24 hours because the software has decided it doesn't want to remember me...or my passwords, whether I use the ones I've been sent or change them to one I want.
