I got a reply in less than 24hrs and theyre going to send me replacements. They were also happy to refund them if I wanted. Pleased with that!

Alright, alright, I give in! I have sent another email.
I have bought in the past from specialists like Norwell Nursery (close to me), Cally Gardens, Cotswold Garden Flowers, Timpany Nursery, Beeches Nursery - they were great. A lesson for me...

I think that most of Parkers business is with local councils, huge orders and if things aren't up to scratch, well, it's the taxpayer that foots the bill so what the heck!

Are taylors in the same click too @noisette47 ? We have one near here and they supply are corn/pet store with spuds & onions sets.
I sometimes use a nursery in woolley moor who supply and maintain all the containers and baskets for a huge area here but never asked who supply them...yet x

Hello joolz, The only Taylors I know of is the Clematis nursery and they've gone silly with their prices since they hooked up with the RHS! As I wrote, my local garden club now do a collective bulb order with Peter Nyssen. Not as cheap as Parkers but reasonable choice and very good quality. For edibles I always look at the AgroForestry Research Trust. Never been disappointed. x

Contacted Primrose (the online ppl that do pots etc) as I ordered 5 galvanised zinc troughs a few months ago. I was looking at them and noticed they had started rusting.

Bit annoyed! Especially as the advert states they were durable and:

                          "
                          • Galvanised steel is weather resistant and highly durable
                          • Electroplated in zinc - adds extra protection from rust...
This zinc plated galvanised steel planter is not only beautiful - it is durable and functional. Its steel construction is lightweight yet sturdy, and its coat of zinc will help to protect against corrosion."

I emailed them about it and said they weren't fit for purpose after a couple of months. I just got an email back asking if id used a liner (doesn't mention using liners anywhere on the advert).

Having a to and fro over email now...I am correct in what I've said in my email aren't I? The advert is misleading and theyre not fit for purpose.

                              @Snorky85

I've looked at their website and although they do say about the effect soil can have on the planter I don't think it's good enough. In my opinion they have organised their website incorrectly.

The blurb about the corrosive effect on the planter is a long way down the page on planters and pots.

Before reaching that far you would arrive at the section that says "Choose by material". As you would be after a metal planter and they give you that option, you would have clicked on it. You would then have followed their options by clicking on the "Zinc" option.

From that you would have clicked on the one that you wanted and it took you to the page from which you could purchase it. That page doesn't have any warning or advice about the possible corrosion of the planter.

Therefore you would not have seen this information. As it's most likely that a person would want the planter to put plants in then the information is essential to those particular planters and should be brought to the attention of the purchaser on the page from which they are purchasing it. Any other siting of the warning is not sufficient.

All that is irrelevant (even though valid) as you didn't go through that process. You went onto Google and typed in "Primrose Zinc Planters" which took you to the correct page and there is no warning on that page or subsequent ones. Therefore you should tell them that and ask for the return of your money as the planters were not fit for purpose. It is not your responsibility to search their website for warnings.

It is standard practice for a purchaser to scroll through the options on the website until they come to the one they want. From there on there are no warnings of any sort.

You can pick either of these paths to approach them again. If they are still refusing then I would suggest that you tell them that you will be going to the Small Claims Court.

You could offer a compromise if you wish (I wouldn't) as it's probable that they aren't all that far from you. If they're not far (Reading) you could offer to take them back and you will either have your money back or pick something more durable.

Snorkey, say this matter is being openly aired on a garden forum.
They are trying to worm their way out of this.....the troughs are not fit for purpose, to corrode so soon is not acceptable. Ask for a full refund or you will take the matter further. Ask for the matter to be dealt with by the general manager and the issue resolved within 7 days
