@LyndaG - I bought mine as teeny things from Morrisons (22/02/13) I bought 3 but one never thrived. The two which have thrived (and in pots!) are: Rouge Cardinal (a maroon colour) and Elsa Spath ( a blue/purple colour). Think I paid less than £2 per plant and they have not disappointed :spinning:

Yes, I'm definitely going to try again this year. I'm feeling a bit more confident as time goes on and have a vision of all the huge floppy flowers out the back! Thank you for the info x x

Any thoughts on what you may have done wrong previously @LyndaG? :noidea:
The only things I know about them are:-
~ feet in the shade, heads in the sun
~ plant deeply (just in case they get clematis wilt - the deep planting means they should re-shoot).
~ still haven't got the hang of when to prune them, but I think I've just missed the window of opportunity for my Elsa Spath ... daren't touch her now because she is growing like a weed at the moment

Your plants may have suffered Clematis wilt. Quite a few types suffer this problem and there's nothing you can do to save them.

Not quite true, Sheal, although there is no cure for Wilt. But there is a chance that if affected Clematis are pruned right down then the shoots underground might just push up again. It's not a 100% success method but it is the only one that might have a chance.:dunno::snork:
