I have had this problem for weeks Woo,can log in ok but can't post as is it logs me out .
I have kind of solved the problem by getting in via Chrome, not ideal as I don't know how to save favourites on Chrome.

Click the Star to the right of the address bar. You should get a drop down which you have to confirm; the drop-down lets you choose a recently used category, or display a "tree" of all the categories, or add a new one.

However, any favourites will not be merged with the ones from your previous browser (although you could use an online favourites manager to consolidate them all ... which is handy if you want to store favourites, for example, at Home and at Work, or with multiple browsers, but otherwise probably just an added inconvenience! )

Did everybody else experience GC go down a short while ago? (at approx. 20:30 as it wasn't supposed to be just me!)

On another forum I frequent, this Web hosting company is recommended:

none have enougth power there, our current machine has more ram and cpu than even their largest package.

                thanks for the suggestions though

Are other Xenoforo customers discussing performance issues on their forum RR? As a database jock I know that a lot can be done, if not already, on optimising the SQL side of things. That's a lot cheaper than throwing more heavy iron at it :)

well XF is very light of resources, alot has already been optimized, however GC is an odd case, we have to carry so much legacy code (for old browsers etc) we cant ever move too far ahead

we tried optimizing the server to gzip most files (as works on all other sites i handle) however a few here then couldn't use the editor properly due to their browser.

Probably a daft idea, but could you provide the site on two Host Headers and have GZip etc. on the primary one (the normal domain name) and not on the secondary, and then point folk with problems to the alternative domain / sub-domain?

EDIT: Thinking about it I expect that's a non starter given the number of links within the site that include the domain name, rather than being relative.

Although I've never been sure if GZip is good for the server ... more horsepower required to make the compression in real time, although less bandwidth then required. If it saved money on a bandwidth bill that would sway me!!

Interested to hear you say that RR as my expectation would be that all the cute AJAX stuff that XF does would require more umph. I suppose there is less whole-page-refresh stuff going on, so maybe the AJAX stuff works out skinnier overall.

Just as an aside, the Net [Photobucket as an example is slower than GC at this moment. Getting Google Chrome to load a page is taking ages:snork:]

And that's why users are deserting Photobucket.
