I've been having problems uploading photos too.
Just tried to load 3 photos using the 'upload file' button. The upload progress bar shows 100% straight away, but then a long pause (about 2 or 3 minutes) followed by a box saying 'there was a problem uploading your file'.
(Filesizes of the 3 photos were between 133 and 208KB)
Had to resort to photobucket in the end.

Can't answer the questions, sorry, but on the site we used for testing it was lightening quick, so I suspect its a solveable issue and some sort of CONFIG thing.

There IS a limit to the filesize you can upload (the message you get is something like "The server cannot process a file of that size"), but its pretty big. (I did try a 10MB file, and it failed, but I didn't try anything much bigger than 1MB so I'm not sure what the actual limit it). If you are quite a few bytes over the MAX limit here the system should just resize the image (if necessary) and reduce quality to get down to the filesize limit, so it should not be a problem uploading images of "reasonable" size.

"Slow" is a different problem thought, which I expect Richard is looking into.

speed is to do with both google re-indexing and the cron still updating members(as every member needed to be updated) in batches (permissions titles etc) it will sort itself out soon.

also gc's vps is alittle small for the ammount of traffic we've been getting from google search/ and google bots today.

i'm off now, as i'm not a permanent staff member on gc, hired on a job by job basis, just wanted to say before i go how much i appreciated the help of the beta testers during the final week of dev
