Dave W Wrote P.S. Do take note that photos in both comps should be taken in the current month and year and archive photos while they may win some months are not the real winners.

Hi Dave not sure if you mean my photo of my christmas garden card, this photo was taken yesterday 26-11-10 as we have 18" of snow here at the moment with more forecast for the next few days.
If you didn't mean me please accept my apologies, not sure if I would like to live next to your neighbours but at least they won't have noisy parties,:hehe: in saying that I used to live in a house in the middle of the Flodden field battle site where about 14,000 people were killed and none of them bothered us:D

    Cheers

    No worries Alfie.
It was just a general reminder as it's very easy to miss the small print.

Can anyone explain how removing exif data prevents copying an image? I was under the impression that if the exif data includes the copyright info and original author data it would be harder for someone to steal it and pass off as their own.
I can think of one submission to a competition on here last year where the plagarism/theft was traced through the exif data and the eagle eye of a GC member who had spotted the original on another site.

I've always included exif data, through removing it is easy, but maybe I should think about removing it. But then probably no one would want to pinch my pics anyway:D

Some contributors to the GC comps may find that exif data (it's data that attaches to an image and describes lots of things like the camera used, shutter speed, aperture, ISO, time and date etc, etc) is not included when you upload. This can happen because your digital camera doesn't record it particularly if it is an older camera and can also happen because the image processing software you use doesn't use it. Using copy>paste as new image rather than crop when cropping an image removes the data. It took me a while to realise this and I puzzled for some time over where/why the data had vanished.

Good evening Dave. Actually .. if my memory serves me correctly, did someone here (from York) not find their own photograph in a shop for sale? Is that the incident you are talking about?

I'd forgotten about that one Vicky. No it was one that had originally been taken by a young divinity student and posted on a photography site. I was alerted to it by another GC member who doesn't participate in the comps but who enjoys looking at the photos, and he was a bit miffed that the 'winner' as announced wasn't really the winner. In that particular case 'the winner' after being made aware of the digression from the competition rules withdrew his photo.
