    I'd be inclined to carry out a further check and try to replicate the problem by sowing a few seeds of peas, tomatoes, lettuce in your Bowers compost (or perhaps sowing in something else and transplanting for the last two being small seeds) plus taking plenty of pics, just to be 101% certain in subsequent dealings with the producer/retailer.

    I'm assuming you've still got some Bowers compost left. I never return everything for 'testing' as I've found in the past (not this product - supermarket food) stuff can get 'lost' and they don't seem very pleased when you tell them you've kept spare samples.


    P.S.
    That was (and still is) Wickes compost (B&Q compost is the good stuff).
