Ah, yes. The compost expanding in the pot. Now I get it. Thank you, Peter. I thought the whole issue was stopping the water getting into the crack. I didn't think about the strength of the pot as the compost expands inside it.

Lots of solutions there though. Thanks gang.

I might go with the epoxy adhesive, like music has suggested. Or the tape, as barnaby has suggested. Or, I may just plant straight into it and make sure the pot is in the most sheltered part of the garden to minimize the amount it freezes, and try covering the compost as Peter has suggested.

Either way, like Harry has said, if the worst happens I can always stick the pot back together, and then maybe use it just as the fancy pot round a plastic pot, as Scrungee has suggested.

I am feeling like my pot was a bargain again. Thank you all. :dbgrtmb:

Clear waterproof silicone sealant, i.e. Loctite, Evostick. Multi-purpose adhesive and sealant. You'll need to dry out the container indoors and then treat every crack and chip you can find or it will just explode again when it freezes.
