Very nice indeed Hornbeam, do you copy from anything , or is it all from imagination? [IMG]

Seahorse was done from a tiny dried specimen that I've had for ages. Female heads are done from imagination plus some nude figures done from life. I aslo do replicas of prehistoric, Viking and other ancient carvings from photos. Won't bore you with them [IMG] .

I'm sure a lot of us would like to see them!
Dag, biscuit fired means pottery fired unglazed, like plant pots.

Yes Dag - I should have replied to your question re biscuit fired pottery

After you have made your clay pot or sculpture, you have to let it dry slowly and naturally in a drying room. If any moisture or air pockets remain, then it will explode when fired in the kiln. Then it is fired and the result is much like a flower pot. Then when it has cooled over several hours or even days, any glazes are applied. Glazes are mixtures of powdered metals and glass in solution. You dip your creation in the glaze, pour glaze over it or paint it with glaze. Then it must dry again before a subsequent firing at a much higher temperature. Takes ages and as the colour of the raw glaze is nothing like the colour after firing, you have to know your glazes and have a clear idea of what you want the finished object to look like.

I prefer carving really as it is direct and doesn't use any technology other than a wood or stone chisel. No room for error though - if you chip the wrong bit off, you can't stick it back on again.

This is one of my Viking carvings in oak - its about 2 foot square. It is based on a Viking gravestone found at St Pauls in London.:

Totally off topic now -sorry. Let's get back to Angels.

[IMG] Very interesting this thread - and Hornbeam those sculptures are really beautiful.

    Do 'ghosts' count as angels?

The other evening having visited the bathroom in the early hours I had a peep out of the window as I often do.

Coming round the corner of the road was a small strange figure in a white 'hoodie' sort of fluttering along rather than walking.
I could not see any legs nor could I see a face under the hood. Then it stopped just opposite and leaned against the telegraph pole for a few moments and a small flashing light appeared about where the heart would be. Could that have been an MP3 or Mobile phone?
Then suddenly it was gone. I have tried to think of an explanation for this - like perhaps this person was visiting and had disappeared into a nearby house. But at 3.30 a.m ? still seems strange to me.

    Has anybody got an explanation???

Well, it could have been anything, but the laddie over the road rolled in around 3.30 this morning, then decided to take the dog for a walk!!! He was playing "ball" outside in the road and the dog was getting all excited and started to bark, so round here, 3.30am is quite the norm!!!! (a light around the heart area is most probably a mobly...)

    ......... but then again........ [IMG]

I can't offer an explanation, jjordie. My parents regularly saw "ghosts".
