haha Clare I nearly fell of my seat with that!

Clueless, science is all about observation, not thinking ;) it's true we may not understand much, but in our surroundings and in our 3 dimensions, there is no need for us to know much else. That said when we finally do find the key to the universes secrets, maybe we will find other ways.

One theory of course is to bend space and time, as both are apparently interchangeable and flexible. However space is so grand, that anything that had visited would be taking a huge risk, not knowing what type of life form, or even society they were coming across.

Same as when a foreign tourist decides they want to see the 'real' place they are visiting, and so wander off the beaten track, and find themselves in some extremely rough estate where hundreds of pairs of hooded eyes are watching their every move trying to decide whether its best to run away from them or mug them.

This links into our supernatural thread ... there has to be something out there more intelligent than us!

How did they build the Pyramids, Machu Picchu, what about St Elmo's Fire ... there are so many unexplained mysteries of the world ... but I'm not saying they have anything to do with aliens ...

You can't get someone to build a decent wall these days without starting with a tea break, having umpteen in between and smoking breaks fitted in (okay, in Portugal you can because these things don't happen here unless you hire British ... which we don't), let alone carve it out of stone and carry it up mountains and across deserts without assistance.

I am fascinated beyond belief with some of the mysteries of the world.

Hmmm. Maybe they just didn't see the need. Fastidiousness in matters of personal hygiene is cultural and comes and goes a bit, *dim*. The Romans had quite sophisticated loos as well as elaborate public baths etc. When they decamped from Britannia I suspect we lost the knack of being clean for rather a long time.

There was a recent discovery in how stone henge may have been built, so chances are with stone henge containing bigger stones that the Egyptians, the technology existed for people to build these things. Humans will always find a way through inginuity when something seems difficult. That's what I like about our lovely species.. were rich and well versed in culture.

      Go Humans!

      :paladin:

ps Victoria, I dont think id want to risk taking a tea break when I was building a pyramid in front of a powerful pharoah ;)

Yes, they're breathtaking feats but they're not impossible given enough time, thought and manpower.

My dad has always been a driver or one form or another throughout his career. Passing my driving test in an age when all vehicles have servo assisted brakes and synchromesh magic in their gears etc, I struggle to understand how one man could manage a wagon that had no servo assisted anything. Yet I know that my dad and many like him managed it to the extent it was just a normal job for them. In turn, my grandad, who apparently weighed just over 8 stone during WW2, was able to repeatedly haul those massive bullets that go in the big guns. He was in the Royal Artillery and would routinely chuck those massive things about for hours at a time during battle, despite his slight frame with no visible muscle mass.

My point is that it doesn't take very long to forget that things can be done, or to forget how they were done. It can happen within a couple of generations, let alone a few thousand years.

              Well said!
My dad was a bus driver. Sadly he's gone, passed away peacefully in his sleep. Unlike his hysterical passengers.
