Sorry Scotkat - can't make out what they mean in round 9 , with the "ch-1 sp & st" - I assumed it meant "chain 1 space and stitch, but it doesn't make sense to me. I've tried all sorts of things to make it work, but it doesn't seem to work. It's probably blindingly obvious, but I don't see it - hope someone else can help out!

As you can now see this is the other pattern
Francis it kinda looks like a hat but that is all 13 rounds now done and it does not fit too small and short and I dont have a big head.

I dont want to give up,want to master these patterns.

Scotkat and Dendrobiuim - Have you managed to find the information you need about crocheting?

I used to do a lot but have gone over to embroidery and cross stitch more these days. If you still want info, perhaps you would let me know what exactly you want explained (its easy to do but the "Code" for it is quite puzzling compared to knitting) - until you know what it means and then you can fly! Look forward to hearing from you!

Just got mail from a crochet gardening buddy in America.

This is how she says I should do the pattern where I am stuck so away to try once again unless anyone else here can help.

(dc in next 3st,ch11,sk next stitch) that should be chain 1, not 11. The chain 1 space is in the last row you crocheted and this time you do a dc in it on the way back.
I really hope you can figure this out, would like to see the finished product.

Keep going Scotcat, it's like learning a new language, I always read each row at least 4 times and unpick it again just as many. Can't really help at the moment I need to have the wool and hook in my hand, I think that makes me a kinesthetic learner when it comes to crocheting.

    Hi Scotcat,
I have never crocheted a hat before, but I can imagine what I would do if I was in your situation...

Put it on, undo the hat until where it doesn't feel tight.
Check where you are on the pattern and go from there, sticking to the instruction, but at the same time adding some extra stitches - Of course you have to think of a way to put in the stitches that does not diminish the effect of the pattern and does not make it too difficult to connect the present row to the following row.
Try the hat on every now and then, because you don't want to go too tight or too large, unless it is a shape that gathers at the bottom so it doesn't matter if you go a bit large.
I hope I haven't confused you even further!

Here's the summer tops I crocheted last summer spraed out on a bedspread I crocheted and folded in the top left-hand corner is an aghan I've made. The tops are all in cotton whereas the bedspread and afghan are in acrylic yarn. This was the first time I've used cotton and it wasn't too bad actually! [IMG]

Sorry the light is not very good ... it's a rainy afternoon and we don't have overhead lights over the bed, just a fan ... for those hot, sultry days!

I shall put this up in LoL's Leisure also as a record of what I get up to over here! :D
