Hi there, I found a few examples of ponchos which shouldn't be hard to make because it is only a matter of working the rectangles as you please and then joining them in the right way.
I would also like to make a poncho: it is one of the hundreds of garments that I plan to make....

Wildflower the very person,at our local hospice have been approched if I can crochet a knee blankets for them.

I dont have a pattern or know length I would need to make it or amount of wool.

Think this would be whne patients are sitting in a chair.

I am now started on my poncho got a sirdar pattern from our local wool shop and a nice shade of green Italian wool.

Well i am not an expert at all as i just start a little square and keep going in treble 3 in each hole and 6 on the corners ..till i get it as big as i want it..you will need 10 x 100g balls of chunky or double knitting to get the size you want..
I would ask LOl if you need an expert as she is neat at it..I just never cast it off i keep going till the end..Mind saying that it keeps you warm when it starts to grow large..
    :D
I have just been and measured one i am doing i have used 10 balls and its 42 inches square..which is plenty big enough ..

Thankyou wildflower I will also ask around my area i fanyone has odd bits of wool as well as if they want a few can get expensive.
You would do your 1 loop and crochet into the circle.
How would I do my corners.

sorry my typing is getting worse..lol is lady of leisure she is an expert at crochet..when you do the first loop make 5 chains then join them up with a slip stitch..Then just keep doing trebles into the chains and go all the way round then do 6 trebles in one hole and repeat it four times so you have 4 corners emerged..then just do 3 trebles in each hole and 6 on the corners...when i do the corners i do 3 trebles and a slip stitch then another 3 trebles as it keeps the corners tidy..I suppose if you need 10 balls you are looking at about £10 a blanket.. people used to go to jumble sales and buy old woolen jumpers and unravel them to make blankets with..I dont suppose their are many wool jumpers around to unravel anymore..

Thank you wildflower ... I've never really thought of myself as an expert, but I am honoured!

Hi, Scotkat, using standard acrylic yarn (always washes up nicely without going out of shape) you can make a good-sized knee blanket with 300-400 grammes.

If you don't want to go around in circles, just make a chain the width of the blanket you want to make and just go backwards and forwards until you have reached the desired length you want. You can do plain or striped. Also zig zag (chevron) is fun and looks good.

Try the charity shops ... I have often found you can get big bags of yarn, often 1,000 grams for £2 or £3.

It grows a lot faster if you make squares then join them...... there are more (deliberate) holes that way, so it's a lot quicker!

Cheat! I've done the square and flowers and joined but I find that so fiddly.

This is the second year I have haven't made a bedspread / afghan. Although we don't know where to put my paintings, t'other half said they are smaller to store than bedspreads / afghans, and he's got a point there! :D
