Does private messenging impact on forum content?

Maybe if we messaged when "POP INN" was alive, it would still be alive today. Still miss the humor of it, and the people. Had lots of fun there.

 

Sometimes folk I know well here PM me about something or other, but never/rarely about something that could be discussed in public; I have always assumed that they, like me, would prefer to have public discussion where it isn't a private matter.

However I not unfrequently get questions from people I don't know as well, or even Newbies, asking "How do I grow X" or similar, and they just get a curt reply from me to ask in the public forum, as that's what its there for. My time is better spent writing an answer than others can Google and read, and the "asker" is better served by getting answers from multiple people and/or my answer being Liked or Criticised by others will tell them whether I am talking tosh, or voicing the consensus.

I wish RR could sort out the New Posts Filter as I'm struggling as without that filter the majority of topics (in New Posts) do not include things that I might like to participate in, and I often find that a post is several days old (i.e. I have missed it several times, already, in the New Posts List) before I actually spot that the subject is something I may know something about.

Mind you, I *have* noticed that the "Alerts" are very, very hit and miss!! Sometimes you get an alert; sometimes you don't.

The Filter is currently disabled.

 

So, when we click "New Posts" ... why do I get ... new posts?

 

You get New Posts, but not filtered according to your settings in your profile (that option is also currently disabled, as it would not make sense without the filter itself working )
