    I feel your pain Jack, I hate it when the supposed 'pro' is worse at the job than your own abilities. As a matter of interest, what make etc is the lock? Just because it's obsolete doesn't mean a replacement is unavailable

    There was absolutely nothing wrong with the two foot of knicker elastic stretched tween handle and top of door, Hyacinth Bucket next door could not see it as it was inside, at least I have some decorum, besides the weather would have rotted the elastic outside

    Unsure of the make of gear mech, just now, and it is behind the décor panel, will take it off again in the morning when it is light and not so cold
