For me, there's no single right answer for multiple forms of traffic on the same road, be they bikes, motorbikes, cars, lorries - we just all have to respect each other.

Since cyclist Bradley Wiggins' win I have seen a marked increase in the number of cyclists running through lights, crossings, etc, like they have the absolute right - and they don't even have compulsory insurance. I say if you use the road you need insurance and that includes people who like to jaywalk - a crime that seems to be largely forgotten now. In Germany, pedestrians are fined E50 on the spot for not using a crossing.

But I'm a frustrated biker - I'd love one but can't afford one. I live on the outskirts where there's lots of bikers and I look 3 times for them. Sure you'll get the idiots but most of them are just cool, esp. the biker-chicks! :blue thumb:

Respect - you have hit the nail on the head FatBoy - and sadly it is in short supply on our roads nowadays.

And the thing that is forgotten more than anything, is that the person driving the vehicle is fallible - anyone can make a mistake; its how other people react to that mistake that often matters more than anything else. Like everything else nowadays, sadly its generally a blame culture, with no consideration given to the circumstances.

Only this morning, I was on a very busy two lane roundabout, and there was a car on my offside who had apparently gotten himself in a bit of a fix, as he put his left indicator on as we were approaching the exit that I was about to take. I could have continued to follow my lane and take the exit, which would have either forced the fellow on my offside to miss the exit completely or see his vehicle collide with the offside of mine as he attempted to get to the desired exit; instead, I slowed and moved to my left which allowed him enough room to cut in front of me and get off where he wanted.

I lost all of a second and a half by slowing, so it was no biggie - and rather than getting annoyed at him for his mistake, I remained calm and we both got where we wanted to go with the minimum of fuss - surely it feels better to help someone even in a small way than it does to highlight their failure?

Couldn't agree more. Sadly there is just too much aggression and 'me first'. On a happier note, my boy-car-racing days are long gone and I find it so much easier to lay off the accelerator and made a noticeable difference to the petrol consumption. I'd love to see a revival of good-old-fashioned manners!
