Could you build a raised bed there and use the soil to fill it? Even though you only get the sun until 1pm, you could have a lovely raised herbaceous border and fill it with shade and dappled shade loving plants. Shout if you need some choices - I have a long list to chose from!

If you want a feature, a flowering small tree or shrub could make a focal point in the middle or several along the back.

Well, having pondered all suggestion I have come up with something - I think!

I'm thinking of moving the mound about a bit with a rake unitl I have a nice little hill - not steep just gently sloping.

I love the idea of a tree of some kind in that position, so I'm invisioning a tree (possibly fruit) on a lovely little hill/slope with long grass and wild flowers.

Now if I did the above, and didn't mow, but left the little hill to be wild, would I end up with grass seed and wild flowers seeding themselves all over my garden?

I have something very similar, and I cant think what to do with it either. Mine is full of clods of weedy grassy earth and now covered with nettles. I cant touch it until later as I too have potatoes right in front of it. But I can see it from the kitchen window and its doing my head in !! I actually like rockeries - you can make them very pretty - but god knows how to get a rockery out of this lot ! LOL
