My thoughts and observations are based on Two Stroke engines, not Four strokes. Hedge trimmers, chain saws etc. are always used at max rpm. The nature of two strokes is that horsepwer for horsepower, they would use more fuel than Four strokes. Hence not noticing the difference.

Edit: I'll be using my plder hedge trimmer in a few weeks time. I'll check if the higher fuel consumption in that is similar to the chain saw.

@shiney My comments regarding fuel consumption apply only to Alcylate petrol, not E5 or E10. Those fuels use ethanol. To the best of my knowledge, they do not use an alcylate base. For those that are not aware, way back when, alcylate fuel used to be known (WW2 era) as synthetic fuel.

Interesting observations @Sandy Ground, sounds like the Alcylate petrol might be causing harm, you don't want to ruin your engines.

It does seem to be very linked to what vehicle/engine is involved - some people are reporting that there is little difference, whereas others are complaining that their fuel economy is considerably worse; surprisingly, it is not linked to the age of the car.

I don't think the bike does the same amount of mileage with E10 fuel , if I am going out it a full tank for there and back . Had to make a pit stop on the way home about 15 mile away from home it never happened before . Put super unleaded last time it runs so much smoother .

I haven't noticed much difference with two stroke machines , they can be a tad harder to start though.

My car is still running at exactly the same MPG - even to the tenth of an MPG. :blue thumb:

Tonight I spoke to someone who has an electric car. When he first got it the running cost was low. Now the cost of charging (he lives in a flat so hasn't got his own charging point) is getting close to the cost of his petrol car that he had!

Offset by no road tax and considerably reduced servicing costs.

                For now.
You wait until the balance tips the other way, the electricity will be at a premium rate and at some point they will have to clobber EVs with road tax.

That's bad. When I had my i3 I found using public chargers was 2 or 3 times the cost of my home charger. Compared to my previous diesel the i3 saved me about 75% on my fuel bill. I expect some charging companies are unscrupulous so you are at their mercy if you don't have you own charging point. If I were in his shoes I'd get onto the management company and get them to install a couple of chargers at the flat.

As the thread appears to have strayed onto EVs,I will continue in that vein.
A local out of town shopping area has a few charging points, but shoppers never get the chance to use them because the car dealership on the site uses them all the time.
They take one car off and put another one on continuously, its causing a bit of uproar, but I don't think they are doing anything illegal.

Huw Merriman, the chair of the Transport Committee, was on this morning talking about plans to remove fuel duty and road tax and replace it with a per-mile charge using black boxes fitted to cars. They would charge by how far you drive, where you drive and at what time you drive. M25 in rush hour would cost you a kidney.

Sounds like the kind of thing the devious B*****ds would come up with, technology has gone too far, bet there would still be those running around with no black box, no insurance etc.
But lets crack down on the legal ones.;)
