    Dry Ice ?
The Krstofer scheme sketch was excellent . I presume Co2 is heavier than air as the dry ice shows , is it still heavier at ambient temps though ?

They grow the tomatoes in polythene greenhouses here as well Harry. I don't know why, but assumed (rightly or wrongly) that it was to keep them slightly shaded. :dunno:

Also, I have noticed that the locals who grow them in their gardens have them under brollies or green meshing.

Brollies are probably used more here than in any other country ... obviously in our winter / rain months and in the summer for shade as the old Portuguese still believe you get the 'gripe' (pronounced greep, ie 'flu) if you get the sun on your head ... :hate-shocked: It is not uncommon here in the country to see the old women walking around with their handbag on their head ... and their mobile phone to their ear ... :heehee:

Also seems to be catching on with younger women as a fashion statement

Tomatoes Aha my favorite fruit, lost a large promising crop with blight a couple of years ago have not bothered any more, one day they were there the next just a heap of drooping grey plants was well upset vowed no more. I find imported Italian Tomatoes the best for salads don't know how they grow theirs but they are very tasty along with the Canary island ones, The Spanish ones are rubbish even for cooking tasteless bullets.
