    Hi,

Wonder if some of you more savvy web users can enlighten me as to the ebay feedback ratings, from a buyers point of view.

If I am happy with a purchase I will leave a 5* rating, but like the other day where I paid for 1st class delivery but it arrived 4 days later 2nd class, though the goods were fine.

I did not leave any feedback as I know any feedback less than 5* is considered bad for the Seller.

Now I get the sellers auto messages saying please leave feedback, does it in any way go against me if I do not leave feedback ?

I could contact them and say I was not happy blah blah ... but for 50p its not worth my time and plenty of other sellers.

    Am I doing it right......?

    Thanks

Some sellers really deserve negative feedback.

Leave it before getting a refund for returning blatantly mis-described/defective stuff, or you'll lose the opportunity to warn others, plus be really concise with your comments or they'll twist your comments with their response.

If I paid for 1st class, or tracked, etc., and received something else, then I would mention it, feedback in these circumstances is to assist buyers.

Thanks, but even if I commented about not getting that service, should I still leave 5* or give less and let them follow up ?

Less than 5 otherwise nobody will view your comment to see why you've done so.

You can actually contact the Seller via the e-bay options and tell him that you're not happy that you paid for 1st class post and that he/she sent it second class.

If feedback is not left - there is no impact upon the sellers rating - or your buyers rating - it's as if you never purchased anything.

I'd just drop a note to the seller to let them know that you are miffed about paying for 1st class - while the package is sent 2nd class. Genuine errors do happen - at least the seller could amend their advert to second class.

I suspect that for 50p - a simple acknowledgement/apology would probably be enough to settle the matter?

Maybe for somebody new to ebay selling, but not IMO for an established/commercial seller who should/does know better.

This is the kind of twaddle that really puts me off buying from E bay, and a lot of other places, everyone wants praise for just doing what they said they would.

Sure have a complaints system but if you get what you ordered, and paid for, I dont really think pats on the back should be expected.
Which, lets face it, most of the time they are hassling you for.

If it was sent first class and it took four days to arrive that could be down to good old Royal Mail.
On the other hand if it took three days before they sent it, then yes you have a complaint.

Likewise if it was actually sent second class at the lower price they are not doing what they said they would, and again a compliant is in order.

A bit harsh there Scrungee - everyone makes mistakes - even those working for the established/commercial sellers :).

                    Hi,

                    Thanks for all the replies.

Have had this pay extra first class, second class arrived thing more than once from different sellers, some small some bigger.

Clanless highlighted one key point in that if I do not leave any feedback then its as if I had not purchased anything, though as you can see from their auto letter, looks like they keep track of their customers feedback.

During weekly check We noticed that you never left feedback for this purchase.
Since feedback is so important on eBay and helps us all separate the good guys from the not so good guys,We urge you to leave feedback for this transaction.

I was annoyed at ordering Tuesday 1300 and not receiving it till the following Monday second class, so think I will do a suggested and leave a 3 or 4 star with comments and see what they say !
( talking here about a small flat item 25g, in jiffy bag 6x4") .

There is another slight downside to some e-Bay sellers and that is some will charge a high postal rate in order to pass on the charge that e-Bay makes sellers pay, or even to make more profit.
I know of one regular seller of Astronomy kit that adds on £20 or so to what he sells on there, but also advises you to go directly to his own site where he takes off the additional charge.:coffee::snorky:

If post is slow tell.... They know what they are doing so tell the buying public that way others won't get stitched in the same way.

Re inflated postage, If the item is still cheap including postage buy it if not shop elsewhere.

I buy a lot off EBay as it's so easy quick and I haven't got to trawl round looking for competitive pricing. There is almost nothing that can't be sourced quickly and easily and dropped off at the door.

No system is perfect but it's close.

One of my son's ordered something for me for Mothering Sunday from Ebay. It never arrived despite the money being taken the same day as ordering.
So, he contacted the seller, explained his disappointment it hadn't arrived especially as he had stated it was intended as a Mothering Sunday (surprise!) gift and he wanted either for a replacement to be sent or reimbursed.

                          Mid April, this arrived:

I think that it is important to let other buyers know if a seller is dodgy in any way by form of a negative feedback, so that they are warned. Having said that, some of the seller view a negative feedback as the end of the world, and not a base to build on.
