I've bought quite a few things through eBay. I find the feedback system a useful marker and always check the feedback scores. If you paid extra for first class postage and didn't get that service but are happy with the item you purchased, I would give a 'neutral ' rating and in your comment say something like, 'good product but it was sent second class post when I paid extra for first class.'

I can't imagine life without Ebay and Amazon ( to a lesser extent). I have bought and sold 1190 items over the past 14 years without any real problems . I have bought from Germany , USA , China with only two items going missing in the post . These were replaced or refunded immediately with no hastle.
A lot of the items , I would not know where to source from on the high street / retail park. Ebay is ideal for those little packs of odd sized screws or fasteners etc you need , delivered to your door in two days. You could alternatively drive to B and Q and spend 20 minutes searching down the aisle .
As in life always be cautious , buyer beware . The ebay rating system works very well.

I must admit that the convenience of having everything under the same roof (as well as searching for an item with related words if you are unsure of the name of that item) makes EBAY and AMAZON my favourite too!

Besides price and increased choice, what often clinches it for me is not having to spend money on fuel getting to and from the nearest town, then having to find a free parking, then finding B&Q's/Homebases/etc. store stockchecker is wrong. Plus there's being able to collect Amazon stuff from my village post office, or ebay purchases from a nearby Argos (in Sainsburys) with free car parking that I coordinate with other things to do in the same area.

Gets frustrating when specialist knife blades that are 'add on' items at Amazon and less than half the price at B&Q can't be ordered to collect at pick up points.

I always check postage paid, allowing 20p or so for p&p, which often turns out to be an inside out carrier bag.
If I feel I have been charged too much I leave appropriate feedback, postage rating 1*, it was posted, comments to be something like, As described, well packed, sent 2nd class.

time and effort put in wrapping the package, getting to the post office, wait 10 min in the queue need to be considered also

I don't really see any relevance as to whether the price charged for postage is reasonable, as I always take the combined cost into account, and at least ebay allows a price sortation based upon price + p&p, unlike Amazon.

With Amazon it's frustrating when constantly getting 3camels alerts for price drops on tracked Amazon items, only to find 3rd party sellers have dropped their price (with free delivery) by say £5, only to add a £5 delivery charge.

But I find Amazon's choice of delvery options far more versatile than ebay. For example in the last few days I got an email from daughter (away at uni) that her laptop charger was faulty, got her to email images of info from laptop and charger, and using them located replacement which was sent to an Amazon locker at her uni SU building ready for collection after her lecture there the following day, forwarding delivery confirmation email complete with locker access code to her when received, and getting Amazon confirmation email she'd collected it. Absolutely flippin brilliant compared to all the hassle something like that would've been years ago.

I also factor in the cost of the postage, agree it`s very annoying though when you pay first class and get a second class service.

One thing about ebay delivery charges I dislike, is when they are described as 'tracked courier' but the seller doesn't provide you with the tracking info.

Amazon are introducing yet another delivery method Amazon Will Soon Deliver Camera Gear Directly Into Your House but ebay are still stuck on either home delivery or pickup from Argos.

And on the subject on parcel deliveries, isn't it about time front door designs were updated to include something larger than a letter plate to provide access for parcels, with access code(s) required to open, and controlled using an app for delivery notifications/remote changing of access codes/etc.?

Pah!!! All these new fangled things are totally unnecessary. I can't see anything wrong with having the butler open the door and accepting the package!
