I'm annoyed as I had several in pots, planning to plant out this Spring (and assumed that they were too small to flower), because I read in the Daily Express that it was going to be "The Worst Winter for 100 Years" ... and those ones are now flowering.

I have planted them, but surely they are going to be pathetic (recently out of 2L pots) compared to ground-grown ones?

          :(

The rate of growth mine put on since 18th april was great so it could happen to yours, mine was budding up as it was getting taller so no idea if already flowering will make a differance to growth:noidea:
Heres mine on 18th april, looking at my previous photo it prob grew 3ft not 2!

Here's hoping :) but I reckon they don't have anything like enough root to put on a decent monster-spike display ...

Oh well this is my effort, yours looks like a good un @joolz68 , think mine is possibly a hybrid, something like pink fountain. But as usual its sideways, windows 8 can go take a running jump as far as I''m concerned DSC_0013.JPG

Here's mine, recently planted out. To give you an idea of the patheticness of the scale that's a Cardoon in the background, and a Bamboo (P. nigra I expect) leaning over:

I like the look of the E. russicum, will have to try and get hold of some seed this year. I have grown E. pininana and once you have one, you will probably always have them as they self seed prolifically. Only downside is that they always seem to pop up in the wrong place. They never seem quite so vigorous when they have been moved, best left to grow where they are if possible.

I have grown the Echium fatuosum for several years. Here is one overlooking the area I live in. It gets deadheaded every year, and that's about it. It reseeds only on bare ground.
